Here's a very interesting article about the current state of this mess and UT's role in it from Kirk Bohls, a sports writer for the Austin American-Statesman.
Not my experience at all. I'm not saying I've never seen Aggie (or another team) gear there, but it's always been Horn-centric when I'm down that way.
Houston's A&M support declined in visibility Mack Brown rose and A&M slid under Dennis Franchione. Some of this is very fickle though. Here in Austin there is a surprsing amount of A&M stuff for sale now as A&M football improved. Texas merchandise was marked down and sat on many shelves last year.
It could change with one good season, one outstanding and dynamic player.
Kirk Bohls is pissed because his newspaper is failing and UT won't allow him anywhere near the LHN programming.
He's pretty much a persona nongrata with Mack Brown & the staff.
A vast majority of UT fans despise Bohls anyway, so what he says doesn't resonate with them...or Bellmont Hall.
Haha. Bohls is unafraid to call it as he sees it, regardless of team. That's what a journalist of any quality should do. Takes some balls to write like that in Austin.
He will be persona nongrata with Mack Brown unless writes good news articles all the time.
This reminds me of the time the ACC raided the Big East. Va Tech was about to get left behind in the Big East, while Miami, Syracuse, and BC seemed destined for the ACC. It was at this time Va Tech threatened a lawsuit and the governer of Virginia started turning up the heat on the ACC. The ACC did the right thing and invited Va Tech instead of Syracuse.
SEC, do the right thing and invite Baylor. End this nonsense.
Inviting Baylor is not productive at all for the SEC. Gaining Waco Texas as an audience is economically meaningless. If the SEC wants a private school from Texas they should go for TCU. The DFW audience is better, the stadium is under renovation, and its a better university overall.

There will always be the die hards, but I notice especially in Texas a lot of people adjust their rooting interest to the winning team.
Disclaimer: Not trying to start a flame war. Both A&M and UT have huge diehard fan bases. I just think a side affect of living in such a large state that people like to adopt the hot team which makes the size and strength of the fan base change from year to year.

Your dreaming if you think TCU is a better overall university.
TCU is a better football program than Baylor, but absolutely not a better university.
That being said neither TCU nor Baylor should get an SEC invite.

Everyone can't be a Kippy Brown and just make stuff up all the time.

Just because a school is located somewhere doesn't mean you necessarily have "the audience".
The reason TAMU is better than Baylor is because of the HUGE Aggie alumni base that lives in the major cities across Texas. The "market" for a college football team is different than the market for say the Houston Texans.

Bohls voted for Reggie Bush for the Heisman.
That should give you a clue about his credibility.
