One interesting observation- it's been widely reported that many white Americans have some trace African ancestry. So what if she really was say 3% African? 1%? 0.1%? Is that enough to justify identifying as black? If not what is the magic number? 15%? 20%? Half? Because I think there are a lot of people who identify as black and may have black ancestry but a small amount. Are those people also con artists? I'm not sure if this subject has really been broached too much.
On the flip side of people like Mariah, I have a friend whose dad is black and mom I believe is 25% black 75% white She actually identifies as white. And she looks pretty white, sometimes she's mistaken as Hispanic. Is that okay or not?

I'd say that it's mostly an appearance thing with some helping of accent and belief system.
Someone at Google could write an imaging application that determined your race, which might be in the form of a percentage I suppose (which puts you back where you started). Colleges could use this to determine if their student body has an acceptable amount of diversity.
Was the crazy NAACP lady wearing wigs in any of her pics? That would throw off the accuracy of the app, although she looks more like Carol King than anything else.

Has she considered claiming to be a Cherokee? It's quite the fashion.

LOL, I was wondering if it was a wig too. If it's really her hair she must have gone to really great lengths to achieve that look.

I guess we all could. Did my and my mom's DNA.
She is 9% African and I am 6%. My mom is white as a sheet and has blue eyes. Also mostly Iberian peninsula and some Native American.

I was also curious about the hair.
