This is one of those lies where it seems like the person would want to move to move away and start a new life. Imagine a lie like this coming out while still going about your everyday life. Sheesh. I wouldn't want to ever face friends/coworkers or even strangers that knew about my lies. I'd change my look, use my middle name or something and move to some small rural town in Nebraska while I lived off the land.
Let's recap:
- awkward interview where she says "I don't understand the question" when asked if she's AA.
- represented herself as black to NAACP leadership that hired her
- received full scholarship to Howard while claiming to be black
- referred to her hair as her "natural curls" (LOLOLOL)
- claimed her adopted black brother was her son
- identified herself as part black on a job application
- taught Africana Studies at a university while claiming to be a black woman
- NAACP posted picture of her standing next to a black man she claimed to be her father
- claimed her black father couldn't visit because he was battling lung cancer
DAMN - the degree of lying makes ME feel uncomfortable and slimy. Imagine all the small talk and conversations she probably engaged in with her fellow black folks. You just know they discussed topics like how it was growing up black, how whites are mistreating blacks (Treyvon, Mike Brown, etc), what foods/music/movies/entertainers BLACK people like, etc. Now she's got to face all those people.

One lie always begets another. This woman has gotten herself in so deep now that she's claiming her adopted brother, Izaiah, is her son, some black man named Albert Wilkerson Jr. is her father, her straight blond hair is actually curly, dark brown, natural hair, she's been the victim of racially motivated harassment, etc. She's falsified documents, used social media to vent her frustrations about being a person of color in a white part of America, and so on. Now that her deceptions have been revealed to the world, she has no credibility, and is the object of ridicule and pity. It's sad really.
When a reporter asked her if she was African American she replied that she didn't understand the question.
When asked if her parents are White she left the podium and ran into a store.
Now the term "faked racial identity" are cropping up.
If society can accept a guy that feels like a girl, a girl that feels like a guy then why not a White that feels like a Black ?
Haha. Good to know. I'm pretty white but my parents are mostly French Italian and Portuguese and I'm sometimes mistaken as being Latino even though I don't think I have any ancestry from Hispanic countries and of course that's not even a race anyway. But my hair is really curly. If I grew my hair out really long it would look a bit like Rachel Dolezal though maybe not quite as curly. I had a friend's mom who is black say I must have some type of African blood in me but I've never had it tested.
Miriah Carey was born only two years after interracial marriage even became legal in all US states. Ben Jealous was born only five years after interracial marriage even became legal in all US states. Just a few years earlier, even their very births would have been illegal in nearly half the states of the Union.
When they were children, "mixed race" had no social meaning, and it certainly didn't in terms of how their parents had to raise them. America saw in black and white social terms, if a kid look anything other than pure white, he was treated as non-white.
I understand all too well about the one drop rule in the U.S. I'm merely pointing out that Mariah Cary and Ben Jealous are both mixed-race people who choose to identify as black.

Almost every black person in America knows there's always been many advantages afforded to mixed race individuals. Unfortunately, although they are often classified as "black," they are still considered better simply because they come closer to the European ideal.
Do you honestly believe that Rachel doesn't know about the excessive colorism in the black community? She clearly understands that as a so called "black" woman with fair-skin, she is placed above actual brown/dark black woman. -Mariah knows this as well...

Get over yourselves. Everyone is part everything. We're all black. We're all white. We're all Hispanic. We're all Asian. Their DNA shows that Yo Yo Ma and Eva Longoria are related. This is the way the world works.
I agree with Chris more than you, but I'd like to make an observation as to what you said.
There is a debate thread about why people get worked up about both interracial marriage and homosexuals. Another words it is normal, so why make a big deal about it.
Aside from pointing out how it is not "normal", I also pointed out how no parents wish for their kids to be homosexual or want them to marry outside their race or religion.
So I suggested knee jerk PC liberals not just call them bigots or racists, rather try to see what peoples reasoning/rational is for opposing their own kids being certain ways.
Of course most want to just diminish them by labeling them and moving on. However I pointed out an example of how parents might not want their kid to marry someone black if it would significantly alter their relationship with their kid. I gave as an example, what happens if the spouse is into black liberation theology or something similar. Their kid and future grandkids relationship will be altered in ways no one could for see.
Instead of accepting that as a possible reason, I was derided for coming up with such a "far out scenario". Yet something similar could very well be going on with these parents daughter. She has obviously been lying bout her race/heritage, and seems to almost be unhinged when confronted with the truth by that reporter. Assuming she is not mentally ill, had she not immersed herself in the black culture (in part with a interracial marriage), to the point of believing she is black, maybe she would not be estranged from her parents.
Funny enough, some liberals seem understanding and even sympathetic toward black parents opposing marriage outside their race. Yet if the same is brought up about white parents in opposition, they are labeled racist bigots.
The hypocrisy seems boundless with liberal thought patterns.

Another thing - is this person different than say MJ or Sammy Sosa who clearly went to great lengths to make themselves look white? Or is it just about the fact that she was deceptive about it? If it's just the latter I suppose I understand somewhat. In some African countries it's a huge problem- people bleaching their skin and doing really serious damage to themselves.

MJ and Sosa didnt claim they were white, create a fake upbringing, lie to just about everybody, and profit off of their cons.
