Thanks for linking to this article, I had no idea that in Denmark they levy a 180% (thats not a typo) sales tax on new cars! Good lord! I cant wait until we are like Denmark.
That's wrong, but we are talking about VOX here. A media outlet which has been gunning hard for Clinton the entire campaign. Smaller cars cost roughly the same in the US as in Denmark. Big gas guzzlers? Not so much. But they have 10 times better public transit of course.

Oh come on t, you don't have to run w/ the ball out to left field. Can we discuss one issue at a time?

No, it appears to be completely correct, and its funny how you immediately jump to vilify VOX when I didn't even get it from there, I got it from clicking on one of the links in the story and then doing some further googling:
I clicked here to read about their high tax rates, then went to snopes, then googled the and got the Telegraph article below. 180% tax rates on new cars seems pretty legit to me.

Like maybe start another thread
Just pointing out something that jumped out at me, I mean thats without even digging into things. It just goes to show that there is a lot more under the covers of all this and all of these sweeping generalizations about how great these other countries are just seems like a case of the grass always being greener on the other side.

I lived in The Netherlands for a couple of years. I'm not extremely well-versed in how their road tax works, but in general their cheapest cars were comparably-priced to our cheapest cars, after tax. I think you could get a basic subcompact for around $10k or so after converting to USD. Taxes shot up quickly for thirsty and heavy cars. The most-extreme price differential was for cheap, big-engined US cars. I think a Chevy Corvette that costs $60k in the US might cost $150k or so in NL, after taxes.
Really? You are going to use another members post from CD as a "source" for this? Its their word against a UK newspaper and Bloomberg, I know who I'll trust in this case. The first red flag is your claim about "cars with good mileage" when the article from Bloomberg specifically calls out how Teslas are being hit with the 180% tax.
The Nordic nation's Vehicle Registration Tax (Registreringsafgift – RA), though, represents an enormous outlay for motorists almost unheard of elsewhere. Until now, Danish car and motorcycle owners have paid RA on registering their vehicle of 105 percent of its value for vehicles bought for under 81,700 kroner, and 180 percent of the value for vehicles bought for over this price.

Well unless I'm totally missing something (feel free to fill me in) that seems to be the exact scenario outlined that prompted your "They aren't going anywhere" reply.
Yeah...you are missing the obvious. Seriously, does everything have to be spelled out to you?
How would moving to another state change anything?
