Like religion between Sunnites and Shiites.
Or water as in the middle east.

To the contrary : Europe wants Russian gas, Russia wants Western technology.

Why does Russia not join the EU ?

Oh, no ... One empire can not join another empire)

the empire-thinking, that's the wrong side of history.
Things have changed a lot and won't convert back.
Now we have internet,airplanes,TV,computers,cars,
tractors,industrial food production, telefones,nukes,bioengineering,
big international companies, many different newspapers in each country,
parliaments,elections,satellites,advanced healthcare with greatly increased
life expectancy...
And on the right side of history there are intelligent robots and genetically
manipulated thingies waiting ...

This is what I call "globalization")

But you forget about the mentality of each nation.
If the majority of the Ukrainian population wants to "integration" ("European integration"), the majority of Russians are convinced that it will bring them harm ...
This mentality was formed many years, it is now necessary to change too many years ... And only new, young generations ...

Re: Russia to join EU?

Yes very interesting. But I think a simple observation blocks that. Rossiya is not a 'European' country. And if the country does by a chance get in there think 'mole' as in having an opportunity in burrowing from the inside to undermine whatever extent of unity there is in EU arrangements.

On "the right side of history" ? omg!are you kidding me ? that sends me the creeps? you'd like to live in a world of half-humans, half robots ? the Stepford Wives, anybody ? or Soylent Green ? that's bad SF, dude! I'd rather go back 1000 years ago and interact with real humans, however primitive I don't care!
"transhumanism", genetical manipulations (GMO) and cloning are not on "the right side of history (save in bad SF movies), NO WAY!
