Ariete. It all depends on many factors, yeah they may be 25 years old but for their intended purpose they may well be ideal. Biggest baddest with the most LCD displays in the cockpit doesn't mean best.
MIG-29s were designed to be a front line fighter. By "front line" I mean in the chit with the grunts. They don't need 3 mile long runways, a straight reasonably level country road will do nicely. They don't have long range but they can carry a large warload a short distance and deliver it accurately and quickly, air or land threats.
On top of that they're durable, easy to maintain with parts readily available in quantity and well trained crews will not be hard to come by.

Versus Finland which is the F-18, designed in the 1970's as well, and even introduced the same year as the MIG-29.
The US F-15, in which the MIG-29 was designed to compete with, is still widely used by US among many other countries. The other heavily used, the F-16, is a design from the 1960's.
But besides the platform, the weapons used are even more important. As the US has showed in the last two decades, precision bombing and avoidance of AA is much more effective than in-flight dog fighting abilities. Though the US uses platforms designed in the 1970's, the weapons are modernized to provide precision strikes.
