I think that Ireland and Britain's position is best described as North Western Europe.
This is what I say all the time. I don't agree with the classification of my location as soley Western Europe as I would be further north than France and would jut out quite a ways into the Atlantic.

I think we are our own group with the Faroe Islands and Iceland.

well, let's say "northwestern" if you prefer, but then I think then there should be "western" / "southwestern", "central / eastern", "scandinavian", "Northeastern", etc

in the end it makes little sense.

I mostly feel... european.

No, it isn't either. It's not in Northern and not in Southern Europe. It's in Eastern Europe.

The thread is asking a specific question and that's why people are discussing the issue. It is quite common to use Northwestern Europe as a descriptor and it is very accurate for the British Isles. Netherlands is also included in "Northwestern Europe". It is a much more accurate description than just Western Europe.

When people want to be more specific they use all the descriptions which you have suggested.

The thing is that with the Nw Europe definition, most would place France in the Sw Europe category, which would make no sense for someone who lives in Brest. That's why i say that western Europe makes more sense to me.
