Yes, that's true everything south of the Alps (46-47N) is southern Europe without doubt: all of Italy and all the the part of France south of Poitiers.

Everything north of the English channel, Belgium, etc. Is in northern Europe. Between those both lines there can be an "centralish" area wich would include Places like Paris, Munich, Vienna, etc.

Poitiers ? No way.... Dijon or Auxerre while you're at it...

On the west part of France, i'd say Cahors /Agen, Bordeaux if i'm generous. On the east, somewhere between Valence and Montélimar, where the mediterranean climate / vegetation begins.

Well the city of Poitiers is located already in southern France. The French User is correct, when he meant that areas of France south of Poitiers, in that he most likely means areas of France which are in the same latitude as parts of northermost Italy.

In the map below, areas colored in blue correspond to North France (France - Nord), while the rest is South France (France - Sud).

Hello saxonwold - thank you but you know I think I know where Poitiers is, I live nearly two hours away from it.

Nowhere in France is in northern Europe.

It hardly ever even snows in France.

Very serious, what is shoking about that ??
Poitiers on the line that divide Italy to central Europe, it is at the same latitude as Bolzano. If Bolzano is the transition between central Europe and southern Europe, then so is Poitiers.

poitiers is also on the dividing line of the northern half of France (centralish position) and the southern half of France, which is lined with Italy.
Poitiers is also to gate of the greater south-west of France (the historical region of Aquitaine went even a bit further north, to the Loire Valley). South of poitiers you are in the roman tiles areas, tipically southern European. The same goes from starting from Macon.
