I'm sorry but what difference does that make? 57 degrees is simply halfway between the northernmost point of Europe and the southernmost, the shape of the continent has nothing to do with it, neither does population density, weather, the colour of the trees or how many swallows make a Summer. Remember north and south are geographical terms and how many cups of tea are drunk or how people speak has nothing to do with this, the question asked is about the position of countries geographically whether the countries south or north of the line have the same or similar cultures, share a language, eat the same food or wear the same clothes are nothing to do with geographical positions and are different 'questions' completely. The actual answer to the original question 'where does northern Europe end' is 81° 48′ 24″ northwards and (approx.) 57.98° southwards.

While it's getting hot as **** here in summer, I wouldn't call it borderline Southern Europe. For Austria, I'd draw the line at Klagenfurt. Definitely not Linz, which is a lot cooler than Vienna.
Incidently Kiel in Germany is at around 55 degrees, this means Germany is also in the Southern half of Europe, and it makes no difference how cold it is in January, how blond the 'average' hair is of a German resident or how many sausages they eat.

Erm my rational is based on FACT! Look up the meaning of the words northern and southern then look up the meaning of the word half, then perhaps you will see. It's perfectly simple. They also use these words to ascertain the northern and southern hemispheres you know!!
