Need_affordable_home....you just won the......Understatment of the Day Award!

Holy shnikees!! Did I just read this?
"Yea those people living north dont realise how good they have it. Yes their winters can sometimes be a little miserable for 2, 3, 4 months but the rest of the time their weather beats Florida's hands down! 4 out of 5 people prefer a temperate climate over a tropical climate."

Truth:
Winters aren't 2, 3, or 4 months long. More like 6, 7, and 8 months long.
And our summers are 90+ temps with heat indexes into the 100's. We only get a small handfull of days without humidity.
We don't have temperate climate. We have really freakin hot, and really freakin cold.

Need_affordable_home:
"Ill take a little cold over the rentless heat and destructive hurricanes. Its 55 outside and I got my window open and 74 degrees inside. Tallrick would feel a little too warm even at this temperature! I checked how cold it gets up north in March and the highs are 50-60 with lows a little above freezing. Whats so bad about this? I dream of cooler weather everyday and being in a better location than miserable south FL. Soon this will be a reality"

Truth:
A "little cold"? Right now in beautiful downtown Chicago it's 17 degrees with a 4 degree windchill. Uh hem....psst...it's March 6th. But our high today is 31! Which means it will take all day to get that "warm", and then we'll stay there for about an hour, and proceed to slide right into a deep freeze again.
Where did you check about "up north"? Which up north? Tallahasee?

Oh and yes, there are no hurricanes in the midwest. Nope not one!
However, we do contend with tornadoes.....12 months a year.

Peace.

Default Frigid Here

Currently it is 5 degrees here, feels like -17 degrees with winds WNW 28 mph. My car does sit in the garage all night and when I pulled it out this morning it read 20 degees. By the time it adjusted to the outside it dropped to 9 degrees.

Yes, how could I NOT forget the frozen fingers and pins and needles feeling, breathing in that cold air. I can remember like it was yesterday when I was college and walking across campus in this weather. Not fun at all.

I have trees surrounding my living room and therefore makes the room cooler. When I woke up this morning, the bedrooms and kitchen were nice and warm, but the living room was like an icebox. I worry if a branch comes down, not only would I lose power, but maybe part of my living room.

Looking forward to heading for warmth.

[quote= Don't get me wrong.....I appreciate the honesty here...there is good and bad everywhere, and it is good to hear all sides......BUT, life is too short to live where you hate living.......we have the power to change almost anything you do not like about your life......just do it......and then be happy. Amen to that! That's why we are trying to move to Florida permanently. I am tired of the words "Lake Affect Snow" Our home sits up in the mountains in Maryland. That means every morning we get up there can be 6/8 inches plus of fresh new unforcasted snow. Add that to the weekly snow storms and it adds up. If it isn't snowing then the temp's are below zero. Since we moved to Florida this is the first time in years that my bones have warmed up.

Oh I forgot to add! I get local weather reports emailed to me. I just received this. It is 4 degrees with an expected high of 15 degrees. Most times it is below zero. Dont forget to add in the 80% or plus humidity. This is bone chilling.

Personally I feel the winters are beyond miserable, they can be down right nasty. That's why we are in Florida renting and soon going to buy.

I'll take SPF 35 thank you
some of these central florida winter mornings are enough to make me remember anymore. it gets cold enough right here for me....and for long enough to make me appreciate the summer here. I was never one for the cold. nj wasnt a good match up for me.
when nah talks about the great northeast weather, he doesnt really know where the northeast begins and the mid atlantic states end. he refers to everything south of the mason dixon line and north of jacksonville as the northeast. He is very entertaining.

LOL... You guys hit it right on the nose! Not to mention - When money is tight and you face a 500.000 Heat bill just to stay warm, Propane. If you do not have that money on hand, YOUR GOING TO FREEZE!! Along with your kids. Have that worry on your mind is not fun at all. I will be happy to not have to worry about it every again.

P.S. Anyone that does want to leave to come up north, I have a beautiful 3/1 1,736 sq. ft. house in mid Michigan for sale!!! Just instant message me for details!

Don't waste your breath, he only sees what he wants to see and makes up his own "facts" to fit his fantasy.

In Plattsburgh today, it's -8 real temp, with windchills varying from -20 to -48. And I chose today of all days to fill up my car on the way to work. It took me 1/2 an hour for my fingers to thaw out.

5 months, 27 days till FL.

Frank, thanks for the nice photos. Got more? I need a ray of sunshine!
