ekrz44,
I hear ya.....actually, we have not had much NEW snow in a few days...it is all from high winds.
When we have a light windless snowfall, the roof shows no heat loss. I have insulated it with blown cellulose to a lever of over an r-50, which is almost overkill here. The walls are 2x6's with cellulose in them also. Cellulose has a higher R value then fiberglas, and when installed correctly, does not settle or have any voids. In addition, I foamed every hole I drilled for wiring, etc.
I also added microscopic beads of ceramic insulating balls to the interior paint, which helps reflect radiant heat.
For a big house, the heat bills are not really bad at all.

I do not know how well the florida house is insulated....down there they don't seem to care as much about it...I would think they would, because of the A/C costs......like where are the double pane windows, etc??

Frank D.

Don't you think getting on and off the bus is exercise enough?

So let me get this right......where is the party?? (I'm a bit slow, ya know...)
Up here in the cold?? Are ya nuts....only crazy people like it up here, like the snowmobilers and skiers......

How about down there?? It would not take much to get me back down there....the house is not rented yet, so it is just begging me to return...I'm hoping that it gets rented soon to take the temptation away!

Nice!!
A well insulated home is everything in the winter, especially the windows.
I prefer your Florida home however.

Peace

You will need to prepare for each season and its weather. Snow shovels - rock salt - deicer - tape and plastic covering for your windows to keep the heat in - extra insulation - furnace maintenance and the list goes on.

I venture to say that just the additional clothing you will need to live in a colder climate will more than make up for your discomfort or additional a/c charges.
Having grown up in the midwest and dealing with snow, yes, it can be a pain. No one will deny that. But for some people, the oppressive heat can be demoralizing. Not everyone is like you and the sooner you realize this, the sooner you'll stop making an a$$ of yourself.

Btw, the energy cost of running A/C far outweighs the energy expended shoveling snow. Running A/C 24/7 is bad for the enviroment, period. The more people we have doing that, the worse off we are, as a species. Then again, people who tell everyone to "just move please" are typically self righteous jackasses who subscribe to the same sort of duality as our president.
