I have quite a few clothes, but of course there are some favorites that I wear very often: 2-3 Sweaters, 2-3 T-Shirts, 1 pair of jeans. It goes without saying that I wash them after having worn them for a while, so there is nothing unhygienic about that.
I also only have one gym outfit that I put in the laundry regularly. Don't see a problem with that.
Seems ridiculous to me. Clothing is relatively inexpensive. It was not always that way. Granny tells me that in the Great Depression a woman wore the same dress to work every day, that's all she owned (maybe a second one for church, but that's it).
My work uniform is a pocket t and jeans. I wear them every single day. I've got 8 shirts, 4 different colors. And some times I pull out the purple one, and the next day I pull out the other purple one.
I'm a janitor -- no one cares.
A lot of people will stock up. Hey Look! I ran into a sale and bought 6 pairs of my favorite workout shorts in my favorite color and 6 shirts that I like! Right now all my socks are the same brand -- bought them in bulk. All my underwear are the same -- I decided I liked them.
I wear a lot of the same clothes to work everyday because they're usually clean on the drying rack from the weekend's washing and I know exactly how to pair it with very recent experience. I have a lot of clothes but some require some tailoring (I'm petite and due to my recent weight loss, it just doesn't fit well). I don't have to see clients anyway and even when I WAS seeing clients, I was wearing sneakers if I could get away with it.
Yes, Tally!
I bought these Russell cotton capri workout pants and they were so comfortable that I went back on amazon and bought several. All black or charcoal.
I have like 8 of 'em, but it sure would look like I was wearing the same pair all the time to someone who didn't know.
What I am having trouble understanding is why anyone would care or even notice.
That is a really great article. I am the same way. If I see a killer deal - like the "going out of business sale" at a Haggar Outlet five years ago - I will buy 10 pairs of khaki slacks and not bat an eye.
Also, I only buy two types of socks so I do not have to spend an hour matching up individual socks to their mate. Also, as socks wear out, if all the socks are the same, you don't have to throw out two socks when one goes bad.
Guys know that the styles don't change much ... and that eventually, you will need whatever you buy.
Male here. Age 69, retired from full-time work. Not very fashion-conscious, but like to look professional when appropriate. I need to be at a certain location (professionally related) once a week and don't want to wear the same thing every week; I can't really reliably remember what I wore the week before, so I have a four-way rotating system which I mark on my calendar with the color of my dress slacks: navy, grey, black, and brown. Then shirts and ties vary to reasonably match the slacks. It may sound extreme to write on the calendar, but it's really quite simple and has become a routine. I have had the different colored slacks for many years, so why not rotate them?

Glad you have a system. Here's the thing I always try and remember though... if I cannot really remember what I wore the week before, chances are slim anyone else is going to remember it either. Unless it is particularly unique and stands out for some reason.
When I find myself worrying about this I try and remember what other people I know have worn in the past few days, and usually I cannot, so I assume they cannot either.
