You can ripen those green tomatoes in a cardboard box with newspaper. We had literally hundreds of green tomatoes that we had to harvest before a hard freeze last year and they ripened in the garage over a month.
Why they are falling? That one escapes me. Have you called an extension office to ask?
No, they're probably not operating at the moment. But thanks for reminding me about the newspaper/box! We did that once, years and years ago, back when we gardened in the ground and had a huge harvest.
I'd try them first, or even a neighboring county. I just read that extreme temperatures can affect tomatoes. With the nation seeing a massive heat wave- that could be an issue.
We are covered up with squash. Patty Pan and a gold egg shaped summer squash are frequently on the menu here. Acorn squash are looking good too. Some of them are nearly ready to bake.

I just grilled some squash for dinner. Love grilled squash.
Just put up about 5qts of stuff. Some green beans, squash and zuchs.
The secret sauce to the green beans? Can them with a 50/50 mix of homemade chicken broth and water. And when we run out of that? Remember that radish soup? Oh yeah I save the broth to that as well.
Seriously- it's BAD. Generally the front 2 acres of my property is prairie grass. Native bunchgrasses and stuff like that. This year I let it go to seed and finally it seasoned out. I needed to cut it due to hot, dry weather and fire season (it's been in the mid 90's with 30% RH). As soon as I started mowing I was covered with swarms of hoppers. It was so bad that I had to stop and go back to the house and put my mask on because they were flying in my mouth. MILLIONS of the buggers. I have two bushes- native chokecherry's that have been picked clean in TWO DAYS.
My friend in Billings said his garden has been decimated by them. They've stripped his root crop tops, they're attacking his tomatoes. He said it's all out war. They haven't hit my garden too hard yet- but we're getting more vinyl mesh netting to thwart them.
One thing we don't have is humidity. Normally I don't complain, but we have this to contend with.
That was last year this same time frame.
The bottom image you'll see an A frame house almost dead center- my place is lower to the right- curved driveway. We would've welcomed humidity and rain!
Cam, looks like we re both gonna get hit with 3 - 5 inches of rain. Not good for plants.
Yup and on east side of storm here so that means stronger winds then if it came over top or stayed to east. You following the Isaias thread?
I just watered my pepper plants cause the pots were dry. Didn't want to with all the rain coming but why stress them out before a storm.

Ouch. Honestly... You can't win either way. When its so dry we get more 90s it seems like. Easier for air to heat up. I'll take a dry heat over humid heat any day though.
