There's a decent amount of things to do, considering it's a smaller city. It's a nice place to live if you don't mind the snow.
I think for once in my life, I actually agree with Rachel.
The same can be said for Ann Arbor, Michigan as well. Loved my first year of college there. Just got really cold...
As you may know, I've been looking for a place to move and Syracuse is becoming a strong possibility. You can get a decent home there for less than 50K from my search... I'm convinced
You can get some decent for a low price. That house you posted is in a "ok" area, but you can even get something low in working class, but safe suburbs here for well under 100k. Heck, you could possibly even do that in some nicer suburbs that are steals.

This is really making Syracuse look very appealing.
I've been looking into the city, college, and neighborhoods lately and for the most part, the city doesn't necessarily have any super "bad" neighborhoods. I'm sure there's shabby areas, but it seems it only takes a few grand to find a better area.
I just might have to make a trip there after Albany (I was in Buffalo a few weeks ago, and it was nice, but very depressing in big chunks of the city)

^^I have heard the public schools in Syracuse really aren't that nice at all, which is really the only bad thing I ever heard about the city. I'm sure there are some exceptions though.

That's about right and we do have some good charter schools in the city. Some send their children to private schools. I will say that even in the SCSD, you have some good programs like the IB program at Corcoran High and the newly opened Institute of Technology at Central High. You can have a range of kids at the public high schools in terms of economics and other things as well.
Like I've stated before, you can find a decent and affordable house in a better school district though.
^Thank you, ckhthankgod. Someday I may relocate to either upstate New York or Vermont. I drive I-81 border to border regularly, and the look of Syracuse as a modern city close to country is appealing. I've been in the city twice, but not enough to have explored it thoroughly.
When that time comes, I hope you're around for me to pick your brain.

No problem...To be fair, like any city of substantial size, it has a mix of areas, but each side of town has its solid to very nice areas. I personally would say to look east of I-81 due to the stronger white collar feel(most of the eds, meds, etc.), but outer neighborhoods west of I-81 are generally worth a look as well.
