You get what you pay for. Cheap places are cheap for a reason.

$200k gets you a decently maintained older home (1900 to 1950) in Lakeside, Woodland, Hunter's Park, Kenwood neighborhoods. There aren't a lot of great examples because the real estate market dies in winter. Here is one I found

https://www.zillow.com/homes/for_sal...t/12_zm/0_mmm/

Location and amenities are very good for $200k homes in my opinion. Congdon, Hermantown, and Park Point are off limits for the most part. Newer homes are very expensive in this area as Duluth has been build out for a very long time. Real estate prices are rising quickly as building is expensive and slow.

Gotta love when people say "come to where I live it's so cheap here in rural Kansas" … that's b/c it's RURAL KANSAS !!!

I have no problem with any other places, I just wouldn't live anywhere else b/c there aren't jobs. Most people want to live where they can get decent work.

Any place that has a lot to offer in terms of jobs, education, safe neighborhoods, things to do, accessibility .. all the things people want are going to cost money.

Why do you think NYC is as expensive as it is?

There's a lot of truth to it.

I always feel compelled to call BS whenever I read this. Yes, it's true to a point, but it doesn't scale.

As an analogy, most would agree that it makes sense that a new Lexus costs more than a new Hyundai. But few would agree that paying $250k for a Lexus sedan makes sense, when a Hyundai sedan costs $15k.

But how do you quantify how much nyc or DC is worth?
