I have been curious about this too. I even wrote them an email asking about it. No response. From what I've gathered, they were hoping the sale of the land would happen in May or June, start pre-sales around September, construction in the fall. As of today, the land is still owned by the Redevelopment Commission of Greensboro.
That is a good question, but I think it might have something to do with the millennial campus.
True and also given the track record of downtown development, construction on projects never start on time. And even when construction starts, progress is very slow. Except for Project Slugger which is going up pretty fast. Tall projects tend to go up quicker than large horizontal development. But I wouldn't read into that it won't happen though.
Business Journal confirms Project Slugger building will indeed be called 400 Bellemeade. The name will be put on the building during construction. However an updated article stated the building may have two names. The other name would be the First National Bank Building which I suspect most people would call it. People in Greensboro don't call buildings by their address name.
Comparing the rendering there is a slight change in the canopy. It doesn't come out as far mainly because the entrance is so close to the street but yes its looking good. My only criticism is that more thought could have gone in the design on the side and back of the building but hopefully one day future development in the parking lot will hide that. However there are suppose to plant flowering vines that will run up parts of the sides. This is a $90 million venue and more money went on the inside which will surpass any performing arts venue in the Carolinas.
That Hampton top out makes a BIG difference. About a floor and half, also nicely ups the density for that area.
