actually, that tiny little car in the first picture is a good example for how big that building/complex really is. It's 14 stories tall, that's not bad, but it's also 2 blocks long.
Yes one of the longest decks I've ever seen. Collectively it's a massive structure. This hotel was about 8 years in the making back when it was first proposed to be a Wyndham. The Westin flag is definitely better. 15 years ago it would have been a laughable idea to have a Westin in Greensboro let alone one in downtown. It's an "upper upscale" hotel on the same tier as hotels like Hyatt Regency, Omni and Kimpton and a tier below "luxury hotels" such as Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons or Intercontinental. Currently Charlotte has the only Westin in North Carolina but there are two more planned. One in Raleigh and one in Wilmington. Neither of those will be downtown though. I look forward to seeing the tower crane in Greensboro the first new high-rise construction in 28 years. Long overdue but is certainly not the largest time gap in high-rise construction downtown. The Guilford Building and King Cotton Hotel were built in 1926 and the next time a high-rise was built after that downtown was the Wachovia Building, now Center Pointe, in the mid 1960s. Greensboro's biggest downtown high-rise boom was in the 1980s, a period when 6 high-rises were built between 1984 and 1989. That's when Greensboro's skyline really took shape.
I remember when it was proposed as a wydham it was 8 stories tall and had a very old design.

I agree. The retro is played out and quite boring. Glad they changed direction on the design. The current design is a modern design not seen in downtown.
Looks like I got my wish. Porterhouse Burger will be moving in the former Noma spot at LeBauer Park. The link shows a rendering of Carroll's tower with the spire and Allen Johnson, News & Record editorialist, said he wasn't feeling the design like others have said on this forum. I'm all for height but that building could do without that spire which throws the entire design off. It makes it look like the tower was pieced together. If it means having the spire to get to 561 feet tall to have the state's tallest building outside of Charlotte, I'd rather just settle for the Triad's tallest. Design is more important than height. At this point, I just want Greensboro to have a nice new signature tower 561 feet or not.
I didn't realise they tore down soo much of davie street, it's pratically a giant hole in the middle of downtown now. Just rode down there to see what was up.
Also wondering why they're cladding the back of carroll at bellemeade, and not the front first.
So far no. But I do know the developers have the building permit.
