Mattress Firm, with 3,300 stores and more than $3 billion in annual revenue, has its own problems: declining sales, too many stores and issues with integrating some big mattress chains it swallowed in recent years. In the first nine months of 2018, Mattress Firm’s sales fell 13% from the year-earlier period.

Tempur Sealy sues Mattress Firm:

The complaint, filed Tuesday in a Tampa, Fla., federal court, accused Mattress Firm of selling mattress and bedding products in the Tampa area that are “strikingly similar†in their appearance and their advertisements to Tempur Sealy’s TPX, -4.38% trademarked Tempur-Pedic brand.

The overwhelming majority are of those eye sores aren't going anywhere. In fact, you may see even more of them.

The chain said it plans to remain in business, but it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection to get out of about 700 unfavorable leases. The company said it will quickly close 200 underperforming stores and make decisions about whether to close or maintain the other 500 stores in the coming weeks. It currently has more than 3,300 stores in the United States.

Mattress Firm plans to exit bankruptcy in about two months. It hopes that the liquidity gained from the bankruptcy allows it to expand into more favorable markets and even open some new stores in existing markets.

Mattress Firm is filing for bankruptcy and reorganizing. Planning on closing 700 of their 3350 US stores.

The first 200 closings were listed Friday. Surprisingly, none on Woodruff Road yet. Six were listed for the state.

I assume it is proven having a quantity of stores within one block of each other can be costly and unproductive to operate.

Closing announced for Kmart in Mauldin. No surprises there. Does anyone see the EDOC, couldn't read the article, just the headline.
