Younger people are now getting it too with bad symptoms! There are a few cases in Illinois of kids under 12 that are confirmed. The 12 yr old is on a ventilator. Many individuals that went on Spring break are also now getting it and the symptoms are bad. Many people under 50 also with bad symptoms. The problem is, no one knows enough about this virus to say, "Oh, I'm young so I'm good". With that mentality we will see more cases and more deaths!
Other than ill-informed people on citydata, I haven't seen anyone saying that. All evidence suggests that its
1) more dangerous for older people and those with underlying conditions
2) not anything to be taken lightly by younger people, though their risk of death is lower
There are a lot of conspiracy theories going around about this being a "second wave," that people in the US already had COVID in December, in January, and so on.
Let me tell you that this is nonsense. If it was the case, the number of respiratory ER cases would have spiked and overwhelmed the healthcare system during that first wave.
But the data doesn't support that. Choose "Syndrome: respiratory" and "Aggregate by: day" in the link below and you see that the unprecedented spike in ER cases doesn't come until March 10th or so.

Two people I know had very bad flu symptoms with horrible coughs. They didn't get 100% better until they were giving a course of steroids in addition to anti-biotics. It's very possible that had the COVID19. Both complained of chest pain and difficulty catching their breath. It didn't help that neither one of them took more than a day to stay home from work and get better. It took several weeks to a month and a half for each of them to recover.
They were THAT sick and they didn't take off more than a day from work? DOES NOT COMPUTE. If they had difficulty catching their breath they wouldn't be walking, talking and working...and for weeks. I think their symptoms and severity were a bit overstated.
My family traveled from California to Oklahoma during Christmas week, and about halfway through the week I came down with a cold. It really was quite mild. Right after we got home, my husband came down with it, and his case was more severe than mine. He developed a bad cough that lingered for a couple of weeks.
I would say this was just a cold, it certainly seemed like it, but the strange thing was that our three children (ages 15, 17, 20) who traveled with us and shared close quarters during the entire week, never got sick at all. Normally, they're the ones who get the colds, while my husband and I usually escape. I think it is highly unlikely that we had COVID-19, but the way it hit me and my husband and skipped our kids was certainly strange.
In late February my mother-in-law got a bad cold that turned into bacterial pneumonia. She felt really terrible for about a week, needed antibiotics, had a very lingering cough, and is only now about back to normal. She had had a visit from a relative in Germany who gave her this illness, so, long story short, she was tested and DID NOT have coronavirus.
I honestly believe this thing has been around longer than they are saying. A person I know works at a casino , the largest one in Wisconsin and they get tons of visitors from China. In December, she was tested for an unknown virus after having all the symptoms. Hospital said they didn't know what virus it was but remember Covoid-19 wasn't tested for.

Seriously??
IF the virus was widely circulating since December why are we only NOW seeing the hospitalizations and deaths???
We know how fast this virus replicates and how easily it is transmitted....it is following a course one would expect based on when it was first identified which was NOT December

All I am saying is that it was circulating in China in December. Out of those infected, I am sure SOME traveled. Remember, many show NO symptoms plus not ALL people pass it on.

Because so many people have mild or no symptoms. No one at my workplace is high risk. Others got sick and missed some work days back in February after I got sick. In March we had a confirmed case in my state.
