You are probably explaining it 40 times to adults because your OP said what would people like to see come to Houston, somewhere later down the thread chain it got narrowed to the inner city. Lets face it, Houston is huge and sprawled out and residents would be happy to have those things anywhere in the greater Houston area, even out in the sprawl. Houston is so odd with things that everything gets old and Houstonians just stop patronizing places and they end up spiraling downward after so many years in favor of whatever hot, new area has popped up.

No, you are mistaken. In the opening post I mentioned that the location would be somewhere in the loop. People just dont read. I will edit this and qoute it for you when I am done

Here is the original post with the key phrase highlighted:

which do you think would generate more visitors?
Which would generate more money for the city (Taxes)

That right there should be the number one reason an entertainment district trumps a theme park in a city like HOuston.

The Theme Parks are blazingly popular for a while then a dump the next.

In Comparison I have seen wildly popular and historic casinos in Vegas imploded while still turning a profit. Why???? Keeping up with the game is why.

A district is usually run by a variety of investors, while the theme park would be competitionless. An entertainment district would be thrill after thrill, something new every few years. A theme park would be new, less new, kinda run down, then eventually be another massive parking lot.

Let me put in terms of shopping malls vs shopping districts.
You have multiple owned areas like Rice Village, and then you have the Various malls (Sharpstown, Almeda, Meyerland, Greenspoint, etc)

Rice has been in operation since the 1930s and it is still going strong because it is a district with multiple individual owners. Now the malls on the other hand have all seen major slumps, with some recovering a little better than others. But with over 300 stores, the Village is giving the Galleria competition for the number of stores

Ok so I might be crazy top even jump into this seeing as I have never been yet but am planning on moving.....

Anyone ever been to Kansas City? They have the Power and Light District. Basically a giant horseshoe shape of blocks of bars, restaurants and in the center a giant stage for shows etc.

Power & Light District

As for casinos... I am in St Paul MN and we have a few casinos, all about 45 minutes away being the closest. We go out there on weekends and stay or occasionally head out on a weeknight to just play some bingo. It is a great source of entertainment and brings in SO much revenue (but they are all on reservations) They also have huge indoor and outdoor venues for concerts, MORE revenue!

We have Cantebury Park, horse tracks, again like 45 minutes away, but we head out there tons in the summer to watch some races, play some cards etc.

Canterbury Park Horse Racing, Poker & Table Games

We also have Valleyfair which thrives in the summers here. Helps that they dp themes around Halloween and other holidays as well to keep the venue busy in off months...

Minnesota Amusement Parks - Amusement Parks in Minneapolis | Valleyfair

The casinos as well as the horse tracks are in GOOD neightborhoods. Low crime etc. the cities are worse than anywhere near those sites.

These are just some things that occured to me while reading all of this information. I think both of them are great ideas. And I would love to have some of these things available to me when I move down there.

I think not having a casino because people will gamble is like saying well then dont have bas because there will be drunks. dont let the few ruin it for the many.

pardon my spelling as I am typing in a huge hurry.

Thanks for reading!

Nice input.

I prefer areas that grow organically instead of being forced, but it would have to take a concerted effort to have such a district in Houston. The It areas never last long. They are hot for a few years then people move on. I think if a viable district is planned It could take off.

One could have been spawned off from Houston Pavilions but the lack of residences didn't help things.

A nice square would be nice too in the heart of the District like the one in the first link you posted.

Houston isn't getting any kind of Las Vegas strip. If Houston is going to finally get a signature tourist attraction it's going to have to be a very unique theme park that's on the level of Disney in scope and size.

Not true. Thing is Houston has never tried it.

I'm sure everybody is gonna love being stuck in traffic before they get to their "unique theme park" where they are gonna have to wait 2 hours in line in the sun with South Texas mosquitoes standing on their shoulders.

Central Florida theme parks have none of those issues. *sarcasm alert*

Yeah, that won't stop people. They live here and that is just part of life to get where and what they want.
