i guarantee you - if a casino opened up anywhere in houston the immediate plots of land around it would be fought over violently by developers for the right to the space. whoever fronts the casino wouldn't have to drop a dime for that to happen either. the entertainment district would build itself - most likely would just add an additional entertainment district to the ones houston already has i.e. downtown, midtown, montrose, washington, old richmond strip, far westheimer, city center

which do you think would generate more visitors?
Which would generate more money for the city (Taxes)
Which one would bring in the most hookers?

we have things spread all over the darn place, nothing centralized. Bar and clubs are big for a few years than people move on quick. An entertainment district would be where all the new bars and clubs are set up. Not jumping from Richmond to Downtown, to Katy to washington ave to Galveston.

stop saying a casino a casino like that is what I said. I clearly stated in my OP that it was an urban entertainment district with various things
I just stated we have things spread all over the place. Or were you just repeating what I stated(Not being smart just wanted to know because that's exactly what I typed)

You Emphasized on casino which is why I stated as such. I'm dealing with more realistic goals here. We know it won't be any casino in Texas anytime soon let alone Houston.

Houston would instantly become a tourist spot if we make Galveston the party/casino island again

when the TX rangers busted Galveston in the 50s for gambling it turned the island into a pit. it is just now starting to get back up. lets help it

Same, I would love to have both if I only had to pick one its casinos.

Exactly. Attractions fuel business and thus districts would pop up around the strip like crazy. There is already so much going on in the area in terms of population, education, transportation and employment, the only thing missing is fun.

I need to read back what the line of thought was. Dunno what I was referring to or what you are asking
Edit: read back, yeah I was agreeing with you on that we do have small things spread out, but nothing packaged in a compact area.

The part about Casino, I was just saying that the people who think of it as a casino isn't realizing that what I said in the OP was an entertainment district with casinos as the big draw. I clearly didn't mean just plop down a casino here.

When I first started this thread, I was thinking more as a development boost for Midtown. but going around the east Side of Downtown I was reminded of how barren it is. I looked at the maps and counted 39 empty/ surface lots. Throw in the lots with empty buildings and I bet the number goes passed 50.

I am talking about that area East of Travis, SOuth of Clay, West of 59 and north of 45.

Its basically this area in the SE corner of the picture http://bill37mccurdy.files.wordpress...04/houston.jpg

I forgot how the east side of Dtown was a sea of nothing:

I think an entertainment center would give Downtown more pedestrian activity than anything else could. And can you imagine how this would impact events we host like the final 4 etc.

This would be walking distance from the Sporting/ Convention district so it would give people a reason to walk around the area.

The churches in the area would be sooooo pissed though

We can have both. Reno and Vegas both do. I would go to both.

Vegas (Paradise, NV) seemed bigger to me, but was looking at the blocks and its only about 20 blocks of buildings. Downtown Vegas is even smaller.

They can rename Bell Station Entertainment Square or something more clever.

Bell is a sea of Parking lots right now

Tillman did all he could to get a casino on the Pleasure Pier.

As long as a certain religious group runs Texas, we will watch all the money going east and west on I 10.
