HP isn't doing that bad now. It just needs smaller retail stores and more residential around it.

I think many Houstonians on here don't want any of them because they fear tourists.

Just not sure everyone here knows everything that comes along with.

I'm from St. Louis and when we got the riverboat casinos they were a game changer. Turned the economy around, provided jobs, brought in tourists. Then 10 years later we had an epidemic on our hands. Poverty went through the roof. Demand for social services sky rocketed. Divorces soon followed. Just putting this out there.

On the flip side, the county did tax the casinos pretty good and put a lot of that money into welfare and even a local hospital I think. Just something to consider.
Friends were from Hot Springs. They knew that gambling ruined their town. It was a whole other place. Their take as the cost was never worth what the town got from it.

Perhaps that's why we want it in galveston.

man if casinos got built here, id be set and settle down here forever lol. although im from texas, casinos are something i miss when i traveled and lived out at in LA. having a casino district in galveston people mentions sounds great. also being able to build off what's been improved on so far in downtown (disc green, bbva compass stadium) and creating an entertainment area with casinos close by would be an idea too. of course crime and the other bad stuff could come along with it which would suck :/

theme parks are cool and all but after a few times, i prob wouldnt go anymore. i know theres def the degenerates that lose lots of cash in casinos, but playing poker was a fun hobby of mine that i loved to do. although texas is conservative, to me it doesnt seem as regulating like california is. i say we need to vote some better politicians into office and get this going.

Hey--nothing wrong with having those vices available to you whenever you need 'em. Gotta diversify the portfolio every now and then. Houston is a big enough and stable enough city to not cripple for having a Casino or two around. In fact, I think the Dallasites would no longer be able to defend their city vs Houston if Htown was to have Casinos around.

Theme Park. I said, end thread.

no, but, this is what I'd really like to see here. A Disney Theme Park and resort complex here.

I know it's wishful thinking, but Houston has a lot of land surrounding it. It would be nice to have something like this here.

All the vices that come with casinos and gambling is why they should be in Galveston.

Wow.

We're some gambling fools aren't we? Texans would rather promote the stupid lotto than support casinos coming to the state.

Astroworld was good for awhile then it just got rundown and ghetto. Like Splashtown. Houston really tries but can't have much amusement/entertainment wise cheaply because it gets rundown in no time.

I never understood why people would be against Casinos in their city.
Some people hate freedom, that's why.
But those same people are ok with our socialist (government run) lottery.
