When we came back out, their bags were gone including their passports, laptops, and other important items". They were stupid enough to leave passports in a vehicle? That's just poor thinking, especially when restaurant and bar parking lots are petty criminal magnets due to the number of people who leave stuff in their vehicle. And that's the kind of crime police are not going to easily stop.
My neighborhood has front entry garages. Most park in the driveway and on the street. I'm amazed that their garages are full of crap nobody wants or knows what to with while 150K worth of cars are on the street.

I'm gonna start marking the break in dates because IMO, the crooks have a regular route.

One problem is people leaving their loaded pistols in their glove boxes or consoles while they park. Criminals target trucks decorated with those “patriot” type stickers. Or they case scared-looking white women coming out of their big Ford or Chevy trucks or SUVs in “big box” store parking lots. They break in to steal the weapons and commit violent crimes. Though if you’ve been paying attention you know this is not unique to Houston or the big Texas cities.

Homicides over the last 12 months are trending down 10.3% compared to 2021.
https://abc13.com/feature/houston-sa...tics/12045973/

However, the murder rate over the last 12 months is up 9% compared to the annual average over the last three years, and the frequency of killings remains higher than it was before the pandemic.

The city averaged 8 homicides a week over the last 12 months. In 2019, that number was 5 a week.

One way to think about the danger: three years ago, the murder rate was 12.1 per 100,000 residents. That’s slightly less than the risk of dying in a vehicle crash in Texas.

During the pandemic, a person’s chance of being murdered in Houston rose above the likelihood of dying in a vehicle crash.

Hidalgo has nothing to do with crimes committed by thugs. In any case, this happened in the City of Houston, where HCSO doesn't patrol or respond, depite us paying the same taxes as the rest of Harris County.

Think deeper. Those who vote for Hidalgo, also vote for the liberal judges, Beto, want to defund police, disarm law abiding citizens, etc.
But you are not one of them, right?

I voted for Hidalgo. I voted for Beto. Both of them were far better choices than the utterly moronic Republicans they ran against. Republicans do not understand the Constitution, criminal justice, or freedom.

You do realize, don't you, that all defendants except in capital murder cases are entitled to bail.

As for defunding the police, talk to Ramsey and Cagle. By their actions, they supported defunding police in Harris County.

Bail should NOT be allowed for violent REPEAT OFFENDORS. Many are part of criminal networks with vast resources to bail each other out to terrorize innocent hardworking citizens. That is a problem.

I'm neither Republican nor Democrat. Cannot stand extremes, cannot stand hate, but also cannot stand crime.
