Heard a report on the Heidi Harris show that Tom Collins has resigned.

Sad if true. We needed one cowboy on the Commission .

And he had a propensity to drink a bit...which fit the cowboy thing.

He and Chris G were the only ones on the commission who got things done for constituents.

And I will miss his presence at events if he has goen away.

And there is likely some good story attached.

I was very surprised to hear that Tom Collins quit. Over a couple of nasty, drunken emails? He's done far worse in the past. Anybody got any inside scoop?

Tom Collins was pro-police, all the way, he fought like crazy to increase the sales tax to hire more cops, to no avail.

Remember during the Bundy fiasco when that politician from Utah called him about coming down here and Collins called Utahns a bunch of inbred bastards and said if they wanted to come down here to stir up trouble they should make funeral arrangements? He didn't quit over that.

He didn't quit when he got caught on tape calling his fellow council members words that would hit the filter here.

He didn't quit when he got drunk and shot up the tree in his front yard.

This one must have been a doozy.

I canceled out on my projected trip to Grand Teton, and headed for Gold Beach, Oregon instead. Rented a Toyota Camry from Enterprise, and north to Tonopah, to Austin, to Winnemucca, north to catch 140 to Lakeview, OR. Oh God! One of the most boring 212 miles of desolation you could imagine! And, due to the forest fires, I ran into white-outs along the way, the smoke obliterating the views of the mountains!

In the a.m. I headed over to Klamath Falls and then to Medford, then to Merlin, and took that old one-lane logging road, hugging the mountain cliffs, over to Gold Beach. OMG! I thought it would be a time saver (alternative is to go south to Crescent City, CA then go north) but there must have been 200+ hairpin curves on that road, and God forbid you should meet someone on one of those curves! Drove 15 miles of it, then stopped and picked blackberries! So sweet and delicious!

I love that 25 mile stretch of ocean from Gold Beach to Brookings, with all those little rock islands offshore!

Stayed there for 2 days, exploring the beaches with my roommate and ferret!

Returning, I went south to Eureka, then down to Hwy 20 to I-5, then south to Sacramento, then east to Reno for the night. Woke up this a.m. and Reno was in a white out due to the smoke!

From Reno, to Fernley, to Fallon, then south to Hawthorne, where I got a speeding ticket. Generally, as in the past when I did rural NV trips, I hit speeds of 100MPH on those rural desolate roads, so I guess I deserved the ticket! I applaud my ferret, I think, for lowering the ticket to 5 over. The officer asked me if I had a gun, and I retrieved my ferret from under the seat, and said: With a ferret, you don't need a gun! He laughed, said he loves ferrets!

Then that god awful boring stretch of road from Hawthorne to Las Vegas! Never in my lifetime will I ever, ever do another road trip on Hwy 95 to Reno!

Total mileage: 2100 miles!

How'd ya like your rental Toyota Camry? I rented a 2009 white Toyota Camry on my trip to Seattle in 2009. Found it to be Toyota boring and predictable. Wow, you really put on the miles!

Did ya hit up Crater Lake while you were near Medford in southern Oregon? Beautiful deep blue lake!
