Thanks everyone for your feedback and sticking with me!! I truly appreciate it! Front runners and a commute to Needham: Hingham, Milton, parts of Norwell and most SW towns (if affordable). Steering clear of too far West as I work in Finance and in the event the bank changes it’s mind about me being fully remote (which has been known to happen!)

We are touring towns and visiting the Needham studio in the upcoming weeks and will be touring a lot of the towns all of you have recommended! I appreciate the feedback as always! Our home goes on the market at the end of this week, so we are chugging along!

If "here" means City-Data-land, probably.

Those are harbor beaches. Not at all what one would call high quality (Duxbury) or even decent (Nantasket).

Longwood Medical using "what" Commuter Rail?

Quincy has a lot of "fake poverty". You remove all the households living as married couples but "single" on paper, there will still be more riff raff than Milton or Braintree but it's not as stark as one would think when looking at the stats.

I have seen a lot on the news lately about the rail system - I understand this has been a pain point for residents for decades it seems…..I think what most surprised me, as an out of stater; is how the rail system doesn’t connect the suburbs. it is either to Boston or just your very direct neighboring towns. Charlotte is very much trying to build a similar rail system (*trying is the key word lol) and no one even uses it because most of the businesses or major employers are not even located in “Uptown Charlotte”. Maybe in my child’s lifetime or their futures lifetime - they will make a system around the 93/95 circle.

I grew up with the LIRR but this is not a fair comparison as Long Island is either East or West lol. But yes, when I first google mapped the route from say Hingham station to Needham station and saw you had to go all the way to Boston first and it clocked out to be 2h lol I realistically stopped depending on a rail system as a means of transportation when we learned his job would not be located outside the heart of Boston itself - as it shows in my original post lol and put rail transportation as a wish list item.

Clearly this has nothing to do with the topic at hand but I found it very interesting to say the least!

This comes across like an extreme nitpick considering the the fact that OP's commute rules out the communities with the best beaches in the region and the fact that I described them as "decent." Not "great," or "the best," or "amazing,"... just decent. They're perfectly fine for an after work dip or a few hours in the morning or afternoon which seems pretty reasonable to me considering that the OP prioritizes the commute and also wants to be near water. What part of what I said is wrong?

Longwood is walkable directly from Ruggles (Franklin, Needham, Providence/Stoughton) and Lansdowne (Framingham/Worcester). So 4 lines stop within walking distance.

I dont think there's anything wrong with thinking of Quincy as having beaches regardless of quality. I guess one could think the same way away about Dorchester, East Boston, Revere and Southie. Weymouth too! But we all know that most people on this forum don't end up picking any of those places with their 1.5 million + budgets and need for great schools.

Face it, none of the South Shore beaches are exactly world class (there is a reason why people go to the Cape). Outside a couple of exceptional ones, none of them can honestly qualify as more than "decent", and the Quincy beaches are a few steps below that. It is deceiving to suggest that Wollaston Beach is on par with Nantasket. It's frequently closed to swimming due to high bacteria counts (after a storm forget it). It's a fine place for an evening stroll or to fish off of, but you couldn't pay me to get in that water (lousy sand and all aside).

Same thing. With the exception of Revere (which is an OK beach itself despite the caliber of the visitors), those are all harbor beaches. Good to have if you live close by, but not one should confuse with an actual ocean beach with good natural sand that people actually spend the day and swim at.

I think some people just like being near the water. They like to walk near it, look at it. But the most expensive towns in the area don't have the water near them and people are happy to live there also.
