Why are so many people in North Jersey so MEAN, ANGRY and RUDE? (Jersey City: schools, wages)

Eww, i HATE the fakeness you see in most parts of thw country. If I'm going to the Piggly Wiggly to buy pork rinds & grits (just kidding, they're quite disgusting) I dont want to have to give my life story to some 20 yr old chick. "Hi, ring me up, here's my money, bye-bye." It's like these people have nothing better to do with their time.
Yes, this is what I mean. Maybe we don't strike up conversation with strangers at the checkout because we see no point in doing so. I'm probably never going to see this person again, and I have other things to do that doesn't involve talking to this random person on line for five minutes. Bye.
But am I unfriendly? Of course not. If someone talks to me, I will talk to them. I'm not going to ignore them (maybe some would, but not me). And if you get to know me, I like to think I'm a good person. I'm friendly, just not THAT friendly in public because I just don't see the need to say hi to, wave at, or talk to total strangers.
The problem is reality TV shows that don't help the situation. They depict dumb rude young people with no respect and Jersey Housewives who portray cougar angry entitled snobs with an IQ of 10..well both shows portray people with an IQ of 10..
I really think its due to the mesh of cultures we have here.
If you notice,Nj has whole towns of ethnicities,for example:
Livingston=Asian
East Orange=Caribbean
Kearny=Hispanic
Nutley=Italian
If you live in a town and you fall outside the dominat ethnicity,you will be treated like an outsider.
In any event,I found South Jersey to be much worse than North Jersey,but then again I was in the Philly Metro,which has the meanest,nasties place i have been to ever: Philadelphia.
First of all, I'm female. Second, it was Taco Bell not the ER at Christ Hospital. With the cashiers, the taco/burrito stuffers, and the shift manager, there are at least 10 people squeezed in the back area of a Taco Bell. They can barely even move around each other. The phone is not more than 10 feet away from them is required to be answered by the corporate office because it's a part of their customer service. Massive fail in trying to explain away all of my bad NJ experiences away. Don't tell me. Let me guess... you are either a JC parking meter maid, part of the NJ mob, or a NJ politician (not Christie who I like and respect - jury still out GW bridge-gate). In that case, of course underhanded ways are considered part and parcel to doing business in NJ.
Nothing says classy, like spelling it with a capital K!
Now that your gender is clear, be careful, lest someone call you a witch with a capital B!

Nothing says classy like Taco Bell! Most here aren't familiar with the corporate policies of fast-food restaurants.

And some people thinks NJers are mean, angry & rude!
For every person who calls with a legitimate short-change complaint, there's probably another trying to scam a few bucks from the manager.
Not that anyone would suspect or accuse a Long Islander! Bless their hearts!
Calm down. I'm not going to get into an argument for giving my opinion, which you, in the stereotype of what people think of Jersey people, cope an attitude. I stated my personal opinion, you can disagree all you want but that was why we left Jersey. Our grandchildren are being raised in small town America totally different from Jersey. Yes other places have bullies, criminals and unsafe areas BUT in the last 25 years, Jersey has changed and IMO it wasn't a place we wanted to live anymore.
Ellwood,
I don't know Jerseygirl in the real world but I've seen her posts here in the NJ forums. She's very engaging when it comes to NJ matters so her post might have inadvertently come across as being argumentative or aggressive but I don't think that was her intent. She and a few other regular posters are who keeps this forum alive and they're basically pretty civil.
FWIW, now for intentionally argumentative, provocative, crude, ghetto-acting from all races, and downright rude posters go to my home forum, NYC. It's a zoo. I must admit that even I get caught up in it at times.

I was asked this question today by a family member who is visiting from out of state. For me, I guess its just the culture of NJ in which we are raised.
There are far too many posts in this thread for me to even consider reading all of them. People from northern Nj are not inherently rude, they're just busy and tired. If I feel that someone has been rude to me, I just blow it off and go about my business. I'm not going to change them.
The cold and reserved attitudes is generally a Northeastern US kind of thing. I spend a lot of time in the south and midwest, for instance and the cultural differences are significant.
