Oh, so you were contacted pretty early. I wonder why it took so long.

Anyone who has been living in their unit have issues with their paint job? The paint in my bedroom closet has already begun falling off.. really badly, not just small chipping. Whole pieces of paint have begun peeling and it looks like more will peel off in the upcoming few days. I'm not even sure where to send these requests to... the beam living app?

I was afraid of this happening. The problem is that the old doors and trim were painted with oil-based paint. That stuff was tough! But it is being phased out in New York State in favor of low-voc products. The difficulty comes in when you paint over the old paint with modern latex. I had this problem with my bathroom door and I tried everything: using a chemical stripper, sanding, using primer, etc.

Still, it seems your problem is worse than I would expect. I usually call resident services, 212-420-5000, and speak with someone. They will send over a paint inspector to see what’s going on.

Yes, I had a paint inspector sent who stated that I needed further follow up. I have not been able to get the follow up done though. Seems to be some back in forth whether welcome services or resident services is responsible. It's been a few months but I am going to go in person again this week.

Back from the Thanksgiving Weekend. Anyone get contacted recently? I planned on having my son have his Student Affidavit notarized when he was home last weekend but, could not find one. I did contact the school and, they said they could notarize documents. Does anyone know if they have a time limit on when these types of docs are valid?

Stuytown doesn't use paint from the Ace Hardware on 1st Ave?

I don't think so. Stuy Town probably gets it wholesale/bulk/dollar store , and it wasn't Benjamin Moore.

I was thinking that if I got in, I would paint it myself (or hire someone) because I want a color. I wonder if it would still peel because of the old paint. And then maybe it would be harder to get them to come fix it?

I was thinking of hiring someone also. You might have a problem with the doors and window trim, but the actual walls should be fine. I have an unrenovated apartment, so my metal kitchen cabinets need to be painted, and I was thinking of taking them to an auto body shop. But that’s TMI.

I honestly don’t know if the old oil-based paint is still available. And clean-up with that stuff is such a pain.

If you do want to hire someone, residents have posted some recommendations on the Facebook page.
