This is the very first time I have heard of a pass option in this latest lottery (2021) at StuyTown. I have heard the opposite several times. There are such pass options at OTHER buildings certainly.
ok finished my move yesterday and it went great! Started at my old apt in queens around 10 am and done at stuytown around 12:30pm! Dumbo moving was really great and they were very organized!!!definitely recommend specially given the price ( a little more than a third of other quotes I got!). I think it really helped that my building is on 1st ave, we used the entrance facing the street since we found parking. it went very smooth! I did reserve an elevator and was assured that there would be one with padding for me to use but that was not the case. I guess that would be the only complaint? Not a big deal though. I love the apt so far, it's huge and honestly super quiet, quieter than my previous one. Overall, I'm very happy! Now back to unpacking!!!
Congrats on your smooth move! Hoping mine is just as smooth come August. Everything was fine with coming in and out the door? Did you just keep using your key?
I’ve talked with Skylar a couple of times when I called the main number. She was so nice and informative. This was before my documents were even in and I still had questions about the checklist.

Yes, it seems like the process has changed a bit. I have called Stuytown recently and was informed that units are being assigned by income and availability. Seems to be a different process from earlier but not sure 100%.

The movers propped it open and i stayed downstairs by the door just in case. There were no issues with that and nobody complained/ closed it. They were done very quickly!

She got in during the last lottery, I think it was in 2017-2018?

Thank you. I will offer this observation. Allowing “passes” and “holds” in lotteries makes them much more complex, it’s more work, and adds to wait times. However, considering how much effort is spent by applicants and the lottery management to qualify applicants it seems hasty to toss them out immediately if an applicant can’t or won’t take a particular unit.

I agree with you, but the background is that Blackstone is undertaking this lottery very grudgingly. Originally, Blackstone planned to warehouse these unrenovated (and subsequently cheap) units, which is apparently legal. The city had a problem with that, however, because Blackstone had accepted over $100 million in city tax breaks to offer the previous lotteries, which have most apartments pegged to the 165% bracket and not really affordable.
So "one and done" was the easiest and fastest way for Blackstone to get these apartments rented. But what bothered me the most is that originally, there was no attempt to match an applicant's income to the rent of the apartment. The next approved applicant would get the next apartment that was ready for occupancy.
So you could have someone at the lowest end of the income bracket being offered an apartment at the top of the range. And a previous poster did complain to HPD about the unfairness of it.
I don't know if HPD intervened or not, but apparently this has been rectified!

I believed they might rectified. The person that posted a 2bdrm offer last Friday had a higher log number than me, but his/her rent was 2k. My income only "qualifies" for $1800/1850 rent so I believed my specialist is waiting for a cheaper 2bdrm to pop up so they can make me an offer. I am not sure if I should call to follow up or wait until next week. I was told by Syed they might get a new batch on July 25.

@tpnyc
May I please ask how did you figure out what your rent should be? Thanks
