Corporate (Kings and Queens Leasing). I feel corporate is easier because they know you can call your city council person and file a case. The email I sent

"I would like to inform I need to break my lease. I was offered an apartment through the NYC Affordable Housing Lottery. My move-in date is October 20.

Please find attached the letter regarding my offer and my move-in date.

If you have any questions please let me know."

Hi Mac! It's funny because the 1 bedrooms at PCV are almost 950 square feet which is larger than my apartment right now - I toured one last year and it was huge (hello walk in closet!). I'm going to divide the huge living room with an Ikea KALLAX unit. But I don't want to get ahead of myself before I submit documents. I will keep everyone posted!

Momma, that's quite a savings! Plus rent stabilization means you won't get hit with tremendous increases. Will the large one-bedroom be big enough for you? I know you wanted a two.
The rent stabilization just makes it all worth it. I would love a "real" 2 bedroom, but to get a PCV apt at 950 square feet for $3650 is beyond my expectations - it's actually larger than my current apartment, I'll divide the enormous living room with an Ikea Kallax bookshelf!

They are really spacious apartments, and management has been dividing up PCV one-bedrooms into two-bedrooms anyway. The bookshelf will look nice!

I think TPNYC's suggestion to approach your current landlord using official language is a good one. Now, fingers crossed that your process goes smoothly!

Thanks for posting, Carbeara! Have you seen any other two-bedrooms to apply for?
