Also, depending on what you do for work, going out to dinner can be an important socializing/networking type thing.
I cannot imagine people in publishing or film would be wowed if I went around saying I ate $3 breakfasts. I'd be laughed out of the room. I can't imagine going out with someone I'm in loved with and saying I only want to spend $11. I'd dump someone that CHEAP.
we were in philadelphia as tourists for the last few days.
we could not believe how little we spent eating. we were staying 2 blocks from chinatown . it was amazing the meals we had and they were like 18 bucks for 2.
one night we were not really hungry and got some hero's and fruit. i think we spent more on parking and admissions to the art museum then 3 days of food.
going out with the kids for lunch in a bit and that will be more then we spent on food in philidelphia. eating cheap is easy if you have the right places around you.

Of course when I have a business meal (which in my line of business is usually breakfast or lunch) we go wherever the customer wants to go. Frankly if you randomly came up and told me what you'd spent on breakfast, I'd think you were rather daft and move quickly away. It's not like it's a typical conversation item in a business meeting.

I think its daft you somehow suggest its viable for three adults to live off $200 a month.
That's daft.
And if you're having breakfast or lunch with clients, then quite clearly you aren't living off $200 a month, so your budget is FALSE!
i prefer not to live frugally but i prefer to make my money grow by better investing and planning around what i do have.
never saw the need to live like a pauper to create wealth.
a penny saved is a penny earned but it is still just a penny. it is all about how you grow what you save that will make the real difference at the end..
it is compounding capital gains that turns the little bit we manage to save into real wealth.

I don't live like a pauper. A pauper wouldn't be eating lean meats or fresh produce.
I've obviously invested wisely. You don't get my net worth by saving pennies.
im not refering to anyone in particular, just a general comment. yep , i agree ,real wealth and growth does not come from saving pennies, it comes from growing pennies.
