When was the last time the NYPD physically used their own hands to kill someone besides using a gun, taste or vehicle?

Taste? The 'cannibal cop' never actually ate anyone!

Heads have to roll and DeBlasio better do what is right or he will lose all the support that was awarded to him during and after the election. Fire the cops involved. Fire their commanding officer, remove all the guys from the top brass for being useless and for allowing this animal who put the choke hold on Garner to be on active duty while he had a history of police misconduct Fire the EMT workers for not doing their friggin jobs and have the officers brought up on charges. Make an example out of them and send a message to wanna be rambos in the force that if you want to abuse/maim/kill the citizens of NY with impunity, by all means try it and you'll join your scumbag brethren in prison.

We need to hold bad cops accountable for their actions just like every other civil servant who abuses his or her power. And make filming cops LEGAL! This is very important. Without the video, Garner's death would have been in vain. The good cops of NYC have their work cut out for them. I feel bad that they have to share the embarrassment from this.

And for the sake of human decency, get rid of Pat Lynch. Every time he opens his mouth, he becomes more of an ass than he already is. A union rep shouldn't be this dense, desensitized from what happened. This man has no soul. I've heard some silly things from all union reps from DC37, MTA Transit Workers Union all the way to the Teacher's Union and usually I just chuckle about it but this guy is unbelievable! Wow! He makes Fernando Mateo look like Thomas Paine.
I agree with you, but I believe all of the cops involved (along with the EMT workers) should be fired immediately and convicted. If DeBlasio doesn't hold them accountable for their crimes, they will continue to murder unarmed citizens.

Well since it is looking more and more like this obese street merchant died of his own body's doing, brought on by choosing to engage in physical activity well above his personal ability, this is basically a non-issue now. The internet is going to call for the head of every cop within 20 miles any time a fat, worthless, criminal loser does this to himself anyway. Thankfully Staten Island is a more rational place than the other 4 boroughs. In the Bronx, these cops would have been in jail already for what? Some benefit card wielding worthless sack of bulging arteries and lard deposits?

We prefer cops and other hard working people over criminals. It's why we enjoy low crime and relative peace rather than filth and EDP's all over our streets.

Guy was not a worthless loser, from all accounts this was a gentle giant, family man who did not deserve to be suffocated to death for selling cheap cigarettes. Like someone before mentioned, the white criminals running the tobacco companies get off scott free and the poor black guy on the street gets executed - where is the justice in that?

The bottom line - and this should not be contested - is that choke holds are prohibited in the NYPD and this cop disobeyed that regulation and as a result he killed someone. He also has a history of improper behavior. Obviously that cop has worked his last day on the force, but he should also be imprisoned for what he did

31 arrests... Oh, and the whole "married family man" farce came apart yesterday also. He'd been apart from his wife for about 5 years. The girlfriend has been all over the news. As certain as I am that his cigarette income supported his kids... well no, actually that's definitely not certain. Lol

This cop was dead wrong, I agree with that. He's done and should be. But Mr. Garner was an obese loser, worthless to society. He shouldn't now become a hero merely because his decision to not be arrested exposed a bad cop.

Alright man, you got me there. Sounds like the guy was a career criminal dipwad - I guess I didn't get the whole story

That doesn't change the fact though that cops can't use choke holds though - and what happened is why. Even batons to the knee caps would have been better, or heck getting shot in the foot

Are people really saying this guy is some sort of hero?

There've been quite a few protests in regards. Silive.com has some good coverage (for once, lol). Now granted not many otherwise respectable people are defending his personal background, but perception is everything.

Right because minor violations constitute death.
