Most recently the city lost the lawsuits against the NYFD hiring practices, and was forced to change. For the specialized schools the NAACP argues the materials on the test aren't taught in the public schools and that they don't take the students grades into account. Given the city's track record they will likely lose this lawsuit as well and be forced to change specialized high schools admissions.
This is funny. They're arguing that African Americans and other students of "color" don't have a fair chance? No, you mean Blacks and Latinos. Asians are people of color, and they don't seem to have this issue of being denied a fair opportunity. When will they take responsibility for their own community? It's one thing to cry discrimination and another to admit that education is not valued in certain ethnic groups. That's the real problem here. If "Shaniqua" has three or four kids, she's likely too busy to give a damn about making sure that all of them do their homework or study for exams, and "Jerome" doesn't care about doing his homework because he thinks hanging out and playing basketball will be his ticket to success and cares too much about how his peers will view if he does actually try to be a productive student. Until such attitudes change, these lawsuits won't accomplish anything but lower standards.
Why don't the NAACP and others simply come out with their true agenda? That is as they have done with NYPD, FDNY and countless other employers, schools or businesses and government standards; lower the bar to the ground so blacks and others who wouldn't qualify regardless are simply allowed in based upon race, that is "X" numbers of blacks per population should translate into "X" number of them in this or that school, job or whatever.
They've ruined NYPD, FDNY and so much else with this nonsense. The City has bent over backwards offering all sorts of free assistance and whatever to get blacks and Latino-Hispanics into the specialized high schools, and their numbers in terms of acceptance actually declined as per the latest data. https://www.dnainfo.com/new-york/201...gh-schools-nyc

Exactly and it comes as no surprise. The more the standards are lowered, the worst it will be.

Yes, I thought this was the whole point for proliferating charter schools in the first place - so that qualified minorities of color don't have to settle for ghetto schools and hence receive a "fair chance" in aiming for future academic opportunities. What gives with the NAACP now?

Ok, just read the linked story, there isn't a lawsuit, rather a formal complaint has been filed with federal government.
