New video shows the boy tried to hide behind the counter before the men came in. Also they knew the boy for a while so they could have kept him hidden or locked the door!

It wasn't much of a time difference between him hiding and the pursuers going inside the store. The person behind the counter seems a bit oblivious to the situation. You would have to be fairly street smart and cool under pressure to really handle that situation correctly.

When I went to the Botanical Gardens last month, I took the Bx19 up Southern Blvd rather than train just to see what the area was like at street level.

To me, I feel like the Bronx got worse as you went North until Fordham Rd. I thought the 140s/150s were somewhat less shady than the 170s/180s.

Belmont has been surprisingly dangerous for a long time. I knew someone who lived there a few years ago and said it was really bad. Did anyone look up the crime statistics to see if it's more dangerous now than in the past?

I always thought the West Bronx as being worse than the South Bronx. But I don't know the Bronx well.

The 48th precinct (Belmont's) had the highest murder rate for the year May 2017 - 2018 (.1201 per 1000) compared to the 40th precinct in the south BX with .1093 murders per 1000. Compare to Riverdale's precinct the 50th, which had .0492 per 1000, and the 52nd which has Fordham north of Fordham Rd and Bedford Park was lower with .0215 per 1000.

But the 40th in the South Bronx had the highest overall crime in the borough by a lot - 28.5 per 1000 compared to the 48th in Belmont with 18.7.

The precincts with the highest murder rates in the city during this time were the 1st, the 81st and the 73rd. I don't know where those are...

I'm sure a group of people who used machetes to violently murder someone in the street with witnesses present would be more than willing to bust out the windows of the store to get their victim.

It's a sad situation, but you people need to stop letting your emotions cloud your judgement. The store owners aren't at fault, the vicious SAVAGES WHO KILLED HIM ARE.

The 73rd is Brownsville, the 81st is Bed-Stuy and the 1st is lower Manhattan. The last one is really unexpected. Why would southern Manhattan have one of the highest murder rates in the city for the past year?

I’ll tell you what though. Those owners are probably pissed at god for that fight happening on their corner and not across the street somewhere.

I looked at the block on google views and not surpringly there’s a bodega right across

I don’t think there’s really a west Bronx since the areas where the 1 train run are so Northern in the borough you could say Northwest?

The west Bronx though next the south Bronx is realistically just part of the south Bronx but just the western portion. All the same ghettos really!
