Almost every day you hear about a fatal shooting, fatal stabbing, or some sort of violence happening here. Has the aftermath of the pandemic just made people in NYC lose their mind & become more violent? I’ve been living here for 26 years, and idk if I’m exaggerating, but I just don’t feel safe here anymore.

I know violence is everywhere. It just feels like it’s escalated and nothing is being done. Every day is a gamble for New Yorkers.

Compared to Chicago we are doing pretty good for the summer. So that’s always a positive.
Obviously a major event is coming up labor weekend in the city. Let’s see how that goes.

July 4 weekend was over 50 shot. https://nypost.com/2022/07/05/shooti...2021-nypd/amp/

Labor Day can be another concern.

I can’t even wrap my head around that. My husband was heading to work in that area around that time and saw them putting a white sheet over the person.

Someone was also fatally shot on 12th st and Ave C at 1pm. I hate it here.

IMO it's the bolded. Covid just made everybody crazy. Plus the jails and courts came to a halt. It's happened all over the country. It's like another form of long Covid, except with the whole city instead of an individual person.

I can carry a gun 24/7, anywhere I want and I rarely enter Manhattan or the Bronx. I still feel comfortable in Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island though as I know those boros well. A well as I know Manhattan, there's far more absolute loons roaming around there.

Thankfully my sister is finally moving out of Manhattan really soon, so other than the very rare job from work (I have my choice thankfully), I don't plan to go there much.

I don’t blame you. I fear for my life and I live here. I don’t wanna live here anymore, but I need to save enough to leave. I wouldn’t even know what state to move to.

NYC is returning to its former grit, grime and crime. People belly ached endlessly about the disney-fication of NYC. Well let us see if the are really about that life.
