26 days in a row has come to an end. What am I going to do with myself???
21 days 228 hours, now off till 7am Tuesday. I don't even remember what the sun looks like. That will be the fun part - transitioning the body back to being awake during the day when for the past 3 weeks I have been asleep. And just when that happens, I will probably be 12-8 Wednesday!!
a few questions for all the newly appointed sanmen: how is driving the trucks, spreaders, etc.? do you get the hang of it quickly or does it take a while to get used to them? and how do you learn the different routes, do they give you maps? any other feedback on what's been the most difficult parts of starting this job (other than the schedule and long hours due to the snow).
thanks and be safe out there.
so how much do these private contractors get for their snow removal services?
In the aftermath of the Blizzard I almost asked a guy that question while he was taking a break inside his Bobcat Skid Steer loader but I didn't want to bother him, he looked exhausted.
The way the city is they probably don't pay enough.
They are probably hired as "independent contractors."
If they get into an accident who is responsible?
There was this guy in a pickup who made $10,000
in 1 week after the blizzard plowing driveways. The story was in the Post.
Subtract his gas/meal money and he still made out good. But plowing is hard on the trucks tranny, suspension, etc.

Anywhere from $250-$450 an hour. It depends on the size of their bucket, for the front end loaders. They have a lot of insurance, maintenance, fuel, and pay for the drivers as overhead. You could buy 4 skid steers for the price of one haulster and we could do it ourselves.
