The alternative to "It is what it is" that I try to remember to use is "Sometimes you have to accept the things you can't change."
Sure, when I'm feeling nice. Some situations call for a flippant answer though, like when I'm on the third straight night of a co-worker complaining that he's on bathroom patrol this week.
"I'm going to be out-of-pocket" - just say you won't be available for goodness sake!
Haven't heard that one. Sometimes I wonder if some of these phrases are industry specific or if they simply take time to travel from one region to the next. I still hear a lot about 'engagement' around here, hoping for some new buzzword to take it's place soon.
