I know quite a few people in Wayne and Wilson counties that are very happy about this.

Sorry for reviving this but figured it would be better then starting new thread. Counties that no longer require emissions testing and only saftey with this new law, does that mean newer cars will not be hooked up to the computer and checked for Readiness monitors and such when this goes into effect and it will be just a visual inspection/saftey inspection? My county is one going to a non-emissions county when this goes into effect. So just curious what this means.

Only recently moved to granville, Always had emissions testing in some form no matter where i lived.

The law was changed several years ago to exempt cars 3 years old and newer from emissions testing in all 100 counties. The newest change exempts all cars in 78 counties. My understanding is that this does mean cars are not hooked up to the computer, but merely go through the visual safety inspection.

Yea that was my question my car is 2002 so that previously law would not of applied but I was just curious if this means they will no longer look for readiness flags or emissions codes(as long as the SES light is off). If thats the case thats awesome... i find after doing work to my car it tends to be stubborn even doing the drive cycle with setting monitors lol...anyway thanks for reply

As of today, it appears the new rules are still on hold. I expected this......I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for your county to go safety only.

Yes, apparently the EPA is still "studying" the proposed change. The last I read is that it is expected to happen sometime next year.
