i live in greene county which doesnt require emissions but i recently bought a car from someone in wake county which does require emissions but i need to get the car inspected before i am able to register it in my name i have read that the inspection is tied to last county the car was registered which would be wake county and the problem im having is that the stupid check engine light is on so is this true

Have you pulled the codes to see why the CE light is on? It may be something really simple like an O2 sensor or a TP sensor.

If I cut the exhaust off and run straight pipe from the cat back is that legal? I live in Rutherford county nc forest city area

I moved from an emissions county to an non emissions county,Can the non emissions county still inspect my car?

Inspections are done by place of residence (assuming the car is registered and you pay taxes in the County where you live), so yes, if you live in a non-emissions testing county, thats where you would have your inspection done.

Default about to move to nc

are there any surrounding counties to Mecklenburg that do NOT do vehicle inspection i have a 97 chevy pickup with no muffler my cats are still there though and do not have access to the oem muffler if not is there any after market that i could use that would keep the dual pipe the only other issue i have is my distributor throws a code of miss fire please give me some insight

Every NC county surrounding Mecklenburg requires emission testing for inspection. But it doesn't matter anyway. If you vehicle requires emission testing, it has to pass an emissions test, regardless of where you take it to get inspected.

will a lack of muffler cause it to fail?
it is a little on the louder side though
