I assume this is the old Rollerdrome on East Thomas Road.

I remember the name Herman Spoot. He lived a block to the south of me according to the oldest neighbors. I don't remember watching him. Did anyone go to Peanut Bandstand at Channel 3 at 16th. St. and Osborn? I think that was around 1958 when the six-transistor radio was all the rage. Where was the Rollerdome on east Thomas? I have a vague recollection of one on east McDowell.

Wasn't there an ice rink on East Thomas also? I remember going to a semi-pro/amateur hockey game when I was younger. My soon to be brother-in-law played on a local team and I recall the rink was close to where he lived near 44th and Thomas.

There was and is a rink at the rear of Tower Plaza. IIRC the Roadrunners used it as a practice rink. It was adjacent to the movie theaters before they were moved over to the 40th street side inn the far east side of the property.

On the subject of Bill Close and KOOL, anyone remember the hostage incident in 1982 with the gunman, the cameraman and the "manifesto" about ants and Islamic brainwashing of President Reagan?

It was neat to watch the Roadrunners (of the Western Hockey League) practice as a kid and try to figure out the rules to hockey. There was also another ice rink near Big Surf, not sure if it's still there. Big Skate comes to mind.

I got it wrong, Rollerland was on 23rd Ave. and Thomas.

Rollerdrome was on 29th Street and McDowell.

The oldest roller rink I can think of was where Brunk's Auction was on 7th Street south of Indian School.

If anyone remembers Beaty's Playpark on 1st Street and Roosevelt you are older than dirt.

Here come the Roadrunners now, that's our team.
We're gonna fight, we're gonna yell, we're gonna scream!
They're gonna score goals, keep getting more goals.
They're gonna show the world who's number one and how it's done!
Come on let's root for the old blue and gold! (not really sure that line's right)
Let's stand behind our 'runners brave and bold!
And let us keep our hockey banners flying as they fire the shots heard 'round the world.

Roadrunner had a blind organist, I believe it was stated she was the only blind sports musician at the time (late 70's).

No not Tower Plaza. This place was on the north side of Thomas and the building, if I recall correctly, looked similar to the photo Roosevelt posted. This was back in the mid-late 50's and early 60's.

There was a roller rink north of big surf that is now Evo Motorsports. The ice rink is still there next door to Big Surf, I rink it is called Oceanside Arena IIRC. I might go there this weekend actually.
