Thanx for the clarification. I could have sworn I remember seeing that name & logo on the sign back in the day.

Unhappy Metro Center 1972

Dont bother. Metro Center is unrecognizable from the old days. The Metro Lounge is long gone. Its fairly unsafe to venture around there. One of the anchors just closed up. They even tore out all the beautiful palm trees in the parking lots. Who needs the shade right?? More urban decay on the (once sweet) West Side.

I remember going there most Saturdays and once waiting in line (wrapped around the block) for 3 hours to see "A Hard Days Night".You could bring your own snack sin with you. Our mom would make popcorn and gives us each a big bag with the butter soaking through the bottom. This was in the 60's and I think it cost 50 cents admission.
The Glen, one 'n', was located at 52 North 3rd Ave. in Glendale.

They did however capitalize on the name and used artwork related to the book Little Black Sambo. The chain came under fire for alleged racism in the late 70's. The name was changed to Jolly Tiger, but it didn't help.
As I remember, Sambo was not black but East Indian but that didn't stop the bad publicity. I still have some of the dinnerware, the plates had a blue palm tree on them and Sambo's at the bottom of the plate.

A really short lived restaurant was Humpty Dumpty's on Central about 2 blocks north of Camelback. Inside there was a U shaped sit down counter and around that along the walls were booths. Above the counter were small arched alcoves with storybook characters in them. In front, just like Bob's Big Boy, there was a large colorful Humpty Dumpty sitting on a wall near the sidewalk. Really a neat place but the food was just average.

I don't remember his name but I remember the suit of armor inside, the darn thing would start talking to you and scare the daylights out of people. Just south of the restaurant was Green Gables goofy golf course.

A lot of the photos I've been posting have been from some of the old postcards I've collected over the years - there are some links to some websites in earlier posts.

Any particular places you're interested in?
