Yes indeed. Photo below is for the rodeo parade. Tickets were not cheap, wages at Sears were about 50 cents an hour. I think that 'log cabin' building was the jail on Adams and Central for people who did not wear Western wear.

I think Governor Jack used to always say on his radio show "It's a beautiful day in Arizona, leave us all enjoy it". Times did seem a lot simpler in those days. The Rodeo Parade was fun and I always liked the clean-up crews following the horse entries who cleaned up the horse exhaust.

Anyone else work as restaurant staff in the late 70's? Used to spend half my tips at The Monastery on a nightly basis!

Briefly, as a dishwasher, busboy and prep cook at The New London Company (formerly Ye Olde Lantern and now Don and Charlie's). Didn't make enough in tips or income for that matter in the three months in 1977 I worked there. And about half of what I did earn as a 17-year old was quickly spent, the rest went into savings for a car.

In reply to a discussion from a couple years ago, I remember Herman Spoot. He was on a show called "Easy Does It" (I think) on Ch. 12. Easy, the host, was Gene McKinney (sp?). I don't know what his previous position was at 12. My mom remembered that it was sort of a "thinking-man's kids show", as some of the humor was topical and way over kids' heads. Based on where we lived at the time, the show would have been on in 1957-1958.
...Yup...remember Easy.. hand puppet as a ghost. The opening theme song was Hall of the Mountain King. Easy had Clutch Cargo cartoons. I moved to Tucson in '59 and don't remember seeing it when I came back to PHX in '60. In '60 they were tearing up PHX putting in the Black Canyon Fwy.

Quentin Webster at his hobby shop on 9th Street and Van Buren. He died last year at the ripe old age of 90. Lots of fuel and batteries in the photo.

Notice how they actually printed the addresses of the kids. Times have changed.

"North Phoenix Airport". Deer Valley, or some location that's no longer there?
