Levitz Furniture stores. They survived awhile then folded I think. There was one at 27th Ave and Indian School Rd.

Oh yeah...I was trying to remember the show my dad watched late at night (11p I think) right after dragnet maybe or it was right after the 10p news...an old 50's gangster show...anyone remember that one. TV went off right after that on weeknights.

Check the "About the Forum" forum at the bottom of the main forum page... someone else raised that issue.

Winchell's and Der W are gone. Orange Julius is affiliated with some Dairy Queen locations (I think particularly at the mall food court DQ locations, like PV Mall).

Der Wienerschnitzel changed the corporate name a few years ago. Dropped the masculine "der" article. Ach, du meine Güte! Now it's just "Wienerschnitzel" which is ironic because a wiener schnitzel has nothing to do with hot dogs, it's like a chicken-fried steak.

As for Levitz, there were two versions, one of which closed in 2007 or 2008. As a separate business entity, the three Tucson-area Sam Levitz stores were never part of the national chain and are not affected by the closings. Still there, or at least were this past Thanksgiving.

Not sure what happened to Winchell's, maybe the Atkins diet? There was one at Indian School and Miller at one time, and wasn't there one on Mill near ASU? Nearest one for me now is in Enid, OK.
