In most cases, I would say no. I support states mandating everyone buys car insurance. I support the federal government mandating everyone buys health insurance because hospitals are required to treat everyone regardless of if they can pay. If we mandate that the 20% of the population that doesn't have health insurance to get it, that will reduce the cost to the other 80% who were already subsidizing the uninsured.

So, are they doing what American people want then to do? Hell no. People want them to focus on economy, not on partisan hackery. I am sick and tired of watching this circus they call the Congress.
The GOP criticized Democrats for focusing on health care while the economy was still depressed, yet the GOP's first act is to focus on health care instead of improving the economy. It's a hypocritical move by the GOP.

They forget that without auto insurance you can not licence your car or legally drive, meaning we are forced to buy it for the general good, not to mention SS and medicare. It has already been done so the courts have already agreed that it is Constitutional. What some states are doing is just more grandstanding so the politicians of those states can say to their Repub voters that they fought it. More waste of money and time, I keep waiting for the politicians to get to work on issues that are waiting on hold while this silliness runs its course.

They also like to ignore the fact that the individual mandate is a Republican creation.

Auto Insurance is a state law not a federal law. There is nothing in the constitution that says the federal government can make you buy any good or services. IMHO

What we had before and what the Republicans want to re-install is more socialist than "Obamacare". I never liked the idea that people could simply choose to have other people pay for their health care, especially when they got their care at the Emergency Care, where the cost is 10 higher than at the docs office.
