the illegal response was to another question. I can tell from your post that you have never even seen a "poor" neighborhood, let alone visited one. I didn't say they used food stamps to buy beer now did I? you are creating your own reality. here in the ghetto, we call them dual carters. they have two shopping carts. one is filled with stuff they need, and uncle same pays for that. the other is filled with things they want, and they have cash for that. the cash usually comes in the form of a wad of $20's they get from selling crack. this isn't the case all the time, but it is how it is in my neighborhood.

1. You cannot use food stamps to buy alcohol or tobacco products.
2. What do illegals have to do with this issue?
I think a phone, whether cell or land line, is essential in this day and age, especially when job hunting.
You are taking that verse out of context. Jesus also tells us to help the poor.
keep going, lefties. Prove that you all believe money grows on trees and no regard to taxpayers who are paying for these people to have better items then many people. I am middle-class and I don't have a cell phone and neither does anyone in my family. Why should these people receive a cell phone when we dont and we put more into the system then they do?
I see. No one should have anything at taxpayer expense that you personally choose not to have yourself. I know depression can be medicated, but I'm not so sure about narcissism.
Well without reading every post I am also confused. Cell phones are a luxery. Why do we need to supply cell phones? Like another poster I myself don't have one. I don't feel the need. Thats on me and I understand that. However I do think that it demonstrates that yes people can live within this society without owning a cell phone.

Please tell me that the existence of crack isn't your argument against assistance for the poor.

You're wrong! I've been a pubic health nurse and been in some of the worst neighborhoods in several cities. I wasn't sure what you were saying about alcohol and cigarettes, thought I'd clarify for everyone.
I would suggest you find a new neighborhood to live in.

I like where I live. I also like reporting on the parasites that infect some of the surrounding areas.

Keep going, righties. Prove to everyone what cold-hearted bastards you are.
A cell phone is often the only way that a poor or homeless person can get a job. How do you leave a phone number for an employer when you live in your car, or at a shelter? And how many minutes do they get? It's probably minimal, I'd bet.
Seriously, what's wrong with you people?
Cold hearted? A CELL PHONE?
How about some gold front teeth with that free crown? I mean, they are in there anyway!

LOL ok. The arguments on this forum are really pathetic from both sides. Bunch of whiner babies give give take take where are the real solutions?

Expanding the original statement doesn't clarify your argument.
In the post I was responding to, in which you described a practice known to everyone not living in a cave, I asked if this was the basis for your argument against the poor: That there exists a market for crack cocaine, and in a country as free as ours, there are people who capitalize on this demand. Is this your argument against the poor? Drug addiction in a free, capitalistic society?
