I'm against corruption of ALL kinds but I will not let it affect my support for unions and workers rights.
I'm glad I don't live in some right to work state. Here in Minnesota union people have rights, as do employers. Arbitrators are neutral and non-political and we have gotten our butts kicked by them many times.
But they cannot just replace us because we strike. That is as un-American as it gets IMO.
Taking away union rights is just as bad or worse than taking away firearms.
Have you been to Chicago in September? It's pretty damn hot and humid there. People are not used to being in hot, non-air conditioned buildings anymore. It's just not accepted anymore.
Maybe since schools were segregated for 100 years we should go back to that too?
Sometimes I wonder what planet some of you people are from

Sure, Chicago is already $700 million in the hole for education but the schools NEED A/C so just grab that credit card and go for it.
Don't hold your breath. It is unlikely they will. Too many think their kids are the responsibility of "the village", don't you know that? Some parents even whinge when they have to buy 35.00 in school supplies for kids they chose to bring into this world.
Last I checked School Supplies for a 1st grader in Va, was well over $35.00. They actually require a headset, amongst other things.
When MY kids were in high school it was ridiculous. Folders with pockets, folders with pockets and brads, folders without pockets, folders with brads without pockets, 3 different binders, all 3 differing sizes, dividers, blue pens, black pens, wide ruled notebook paper, college ruled notebook paper, wire bound composition books, non-wirebound composition books, and loads of other stuff.
For both kids, (and this was 7 years ago), getting school supplies was a 150$ plus ordeal, and that's getting stuff at big lots and dollar tree.

The same happens here in New England in September, May, and June. Your point?

This gets my vote for the dumbest comment in this thread.

I disagree. I actually find it Un-American, to be FORCED to join a union to work somewhere. Did you read my earlier post, Chicago teachers make just under 50K for first year teachers, but are required to pay over $1000.00 to join the union. That's like saying, if you want to work, you have to pay us.
Sorry, after having personally witnessed someone working part time, having to pay almost 1/3rd of their earnings to be in the union so they could work, I would never join a union, nor would I support anything other than a right to work state.

Why are you forced? You don't have to work there. I mean if you train to be an electrician and you want to work for 3M then you know going in that you are going to be union. The company wants it that way and the workers do too.
If you work for the public utility, you know it's union. If you don't want to be in a union you are free to work for a smaller company or start your own business.
Who is going to pay for it ? Chicago is already $700 million in the red in the education budget.
