There are a lot of little robber barons running around these days.
Maybe requiring public assistance beneficiaries to pass a social politeness test would appease some of the middle class people who oppose such programs. I mean, who wants to give free stuff someone who acts like a jerk? On the other hand, people are apparently free to be jerks as long as they already have money. Some civil society we have here.
But since he apparently plans on arranging his employees' hours so he won't have to pay, in the interests of 'Truth in Advertising', shouldn't the AHA Surcharge be changed to Whiny Employer Pi$$ed Off That His Guy Didn't Win Surcharge?
No, I'm certain all these people complaining about the greeeeedy restaurant owner will jump right in and open their own businesses and implement Obamacare themselves.
I guess one could speculate as to why they haven't done so previously ........
And for whatever it's worth, it is because of businesses like his that there was a need for something like Obamacare in the first place - restaurants are notoriously bad places to work: low wages and inconsistent hours plus no benefits.
Part of the reason is that the margins in restaurants are so low, thereby enabling Americans to eat cheap food prepared by others. For someone with a lot of scale who can maybe afford to provide a better work environment, the prevailing conditions are already bad, so unless the owner is exceptionally kind the wages will and conditions will be the same as at your typical restaurant. It's just the way Americans apparently like to do things.

Those being jerks with money do have one selling point with many ...... they aren't spending the taxpayers dime while being jerks.

You do know, don't you, that anyone with less than 50 employees are exempt from buying HC insurance for their employees. And those with 12 or less employees, paying an average wage of 50K and less get a tax break if they DO provide HC insurance?
The penalty for the 50 and over worker threshhold is the penalty for not providing AFFORDABLE coverage, based upon a percentage of that workers wage.
Or didn't you read that part?
Oh, wait, you didn't read ANY of it, did you?
Sheesh, people, I'm an old-fart-retired-LEO with a bum kidney and no college education, and I know this. Stop listening to the RW talk-fest and read up on it.

Might be an interesting experiment: small breakfast cafe next door to a Denny's franchise owned by Mr. Outraged. The cafe's employees are covered, so healthier and happier, more loyal and stay on longer. Meanwhile, the part-timers at Denny's are treated like sprockets in a machine and they know it. Whose customers are going to get the better service, I wonder?
After performing this fact-finding experiment, please add one regarding the prices on the menus.
I got wonderful service at brunch once at the Waldorf Astoria .......

I forgot that. So this guy runs a restaurant and will like either be except from Obamacare or get a tax-credit and is still raising his prices. That's priceless!
