this thread is going to get really ugly really quick
The thread was ugly, mean spirited and immature from its inception. Who does the OP think best represents the tragedy of being a victim of someone that should not have a gun, least of all an automatic weapon...the well compensated lobbyists from the NRA?
Wow, delusion runs deep with the gun fondlers. Gabby gave compelling testimony... everybody with a heart and common sense can see that. You have no idea what a legislative ton of bricks is about to be dumped on you courtesy of 26 dead children and teachers in Sandy Hook. (not to mention 13,000 others every year)
Say goodbye to new assault rifles... say goodbye to your 30 round clips... say goodbye to gun show loopholes... and say hello to full, lengthy background checks that invade your privacy so much, you'll wish you were at your proctologist's office instead. The NRA has hurt your case more than helped it. I hope those annual fees you pay continue to be wasted on ineffective lobbying... hilarious.
Hear that? It's the sound of gun control.
It's coming... and there's NOTHING you can do about it. Count on it. Bend over and enjoy the ride, fondlers.
You think saying goodbye to assault rifles and 30 round clips will stop lunatics from killing folks. Useful idiots all around. Handguns kill more people in the US than your evil assault rifles by a WIDE margin. You aren't smart enough to realize that though like the rest.

No, it'll take time. Over a few decades, people won't even remember what a 30 round clip looks like. The ability to kill dozens of people in a couple minutes will become harder and harder every year as AR-15s and large clips become historical relics. Just like when the fully automatic Tommy Gun was restricted in 1934 during the National Firearms Act... how many do we see being used in crimes today? It takes time and this is the first step.
She should have been discussing why the Sheriff didn't do anything about Loughner's multiple threats he made knowing full well he was mentally ill. If the Sheriff would have done his job, he never would have been able to buy that gun. Now here she is wanting more laws while the existing ones weren't followed to begin with. Her husband said background checks would have prevented this? No it wouldn't have because Loughner DID get a background check and passed thanks to the sheriff.
The article linked above is from freerepublic, a conservative site. They were honest enough to add a disclaimer that it's a rumor, as you can see.
Gabby Giffords made a Victim Impact Statement before a Senate hearing, something which is common in Congress as well as courts of law. She was not testifying as an expert witness.
Anyone who watched the agonizing effort which she expended in entering the Senate Chamber can see how very slow and difficult recovery from a serious brain injury can be. Ms. Giffords may be a lobbyist, but it's clear that, at least for now, that designation is more titular than official. Most of her day is still spent in rehabilitation.
Unlike cars and washing machines, rifles and guns may last for hundreds of years with proper care. When gun companies need to make a profit, they have to convince people that they need more weapons and ammunition. The simplest way to do that is to make them afraid, and afraid of several different things...doomsday scenarios, gun confiscation, immigration and civil revolt have been very successful at accomplishing that for their benefit.
In 20 years, when not one of these dire predictions come true, many people will look gullible and silly.
If the measure of a society is how it treats the least of its members, we're failing badly. The thread title and many of the posts here exhibit so much fear and hatred. Those emotions cause a rush of adrenaline, and eventually it becomes addictive...it's why kids love scary movies.
How sad that human life has so little value to some, and that mocking the maimed and choosing to ignore the safety of our citizens, especially our children, can be thought to be acceptable behavior. This thread is a testimonial as to how easily certain people can be made to believe what most would consider paranoid delusions. If humans survived the bubonic plague, we can survive this time of cynical manipulation and outright lies.
I read the post I responded to again and realized that I made a huge mistake here that I need to clarify.
Upon first reading, in my mind I saw a don't in the sentence....as in "Raise your hand if you don't give a $%*# what AeroGuy has to say about guns". Hence the reason for both my hands high in the air.

I'm against lobbyists period. That was one promise Obama failed to keep..to kick the lobbyists out of DC.
Lobbyists have loyalty to the person funding them.
Victims testifying to Congress is one thing but a lobbyist testifying is quite another.
Lobbyists serve one purpose and that is to push an agenda.
Money and power corrupt.
Yes, I agree on the corruption part. A woman was shot in the head, lost one half of her faculties, can't walk or talk like a normal, and the NRA is a proud standing lobbyist organization that should be kicked right the heck out of DC. Then making fun or light of a person who is now permanently damaged for a lifetime.
You people make me absolutely sick, playing this garbage of Gabby and her sympathy ploy, absolutely sick. You are the one's {starting this rhetoric and continuing it} that are mentally ill. You should be ashamed of yourselves.
You make me want to throw up.
