How about one loud message.
Don't rape.

These boys got off lightly. 15 years would be a nice message, you rape with evidence beyond doubt - you get a life altering penalty - just as their actions have altered that girls.
I'm with you on the punishment.

Violent crimes should result in life changing or ending crimes.

I have a 12 year old daughter. Someone does this to my daughter and they'd be lucky to make it to trial alive.

Suck, I'm a single father. Can't take Samuel Jackson type revenge. I'd want to though...

I agree. My wife and I have talked about something like this ever happening to one of our children. We've decided to wait until they serve their term then after they get out capture and torture them to death. May as well make em suffer in jail first and I have younger ones who still need their parents for a while. Anyone does that to my kids will pay it back in spades for sure though.

Predictably, inevitably, one of the two young footballers intends to appeal, on "grounds of immaturity".

So much for his whimpering apology to the victim's family that he ruined her life.

Honestly, even the thought of it gives me images of wiping entire family lines from the face of the earth in a killing spree of medieval proportions.

Holy crap, this made me upset.

How the parents haven't murdered everyone and anyone is beyond me.

I understand why the sentencing was so light, but still.

Ingesting alcohol does not make one responsible for -anything- when it comes to rape. This girl was completely blacked out, and they raped her. If it were my daughter, I'd be going to jail for torture.

It would be hard to hold back but I've got other kids to look after myself. Plus you have your daughter to try and take care of after something like this. Now all these little punks tweeting sheet and threatening her and calling this girl all kinds of crap would most likely put me over the edge. Kids are mean but this is beyond anything I could imagine. Something is wrong with that town.

Should the guys acted as they did? Of course not. But I think it's complete disingenuousness to paint this girl as a wholly innocent party-goer who had no hand in what occurred. 100% balderdash.

Anyone who has ever attended a party where underage drinking is involved knows that this kind of crap happens all the time. The difference here is that it was broadcast on social media and the girl all of a sudden had more of a substantial interest in salvaging what's left of her (bad) reputation. For better or worse, and before social media came into our lives, this sort of thing was the subject of hallway gossip and not much more. People learned from the mistakes (sometimes) and moved on without the weight of the world watching via CNN. This girl has some culpability. The uproar from this girl and her mother are more about saving face than justice. I'll maintain that till the end.
Wow, what an expected response. Blame the victim. It's the conservative way.

Maybe one of these days your daughter/sister/wife will get raped & then we can turn around, point fingers & say "She deserved it!" I'm sure you won't mind, right? After all, that's your line of thinking.

Wow... I was with you until you started wishing someone's daughter/wife/sister would get raped so you could say neener neener neener...

Just WOW...

Appealing because their brains aren't fully developed? "Madison is arguing that a 16-year-old's brain is not fully functional enough to determine whether raping an unconscious girl is a bad decision." All I can say is wow.

What next they will claim they had head trauma due to the violence in football so it wasn't their fault? Actually that would probably work in this screwed up world we live in now.
