Well, considering that gun nuts' mantra is "more guns, less crime" or "if we aren't armed to the teeth, criminals will take over our cities" I guess that they are probably wrong: a lot of guns doesn't always mean low crime... I need also to write an armed society is not always a polite society: after two years in Texas I actually disagree about such statement
You know how that argument goes...Now I say, "Well then why don't we just get rid of all laws since criminals don't obey them?"
Criminals don't obey laws, thats right, but it doesn't mean you don't make laws that effect the criminals directly. What you don't do is pass laws that with careful study are proven not to make a difference in the violent crime stats but restrict the rights of lawful Americans by ignoring the constitution.
The murder law does not effect law abiding citizens who don't murder people. But these gun control laws will effect the lives of millions of Americans by restricting thier freedoms.
How will universal background checks take the guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens?
Not all criminals are the type running around on the streets who have access to guns from illegal gun trafficking. I am pretty sure that most domestic violence perpetrators buy their guns from stores, and universal background checks would prevent a lot of them from purchasing guns.
better than 99% of all firearms sold are sold to law abiding citizens. that means the rest is caught by the feds who refuse to prosecute any former felons for trying to buy a firearm, which is in fact a felony.
if the feds do not prosecute any felon for trying to buy a firearm, then why have the law. it is not sensible and should be gotten rid of. if the feds got rid of all data immediately after doing the background check being complete and approved, then fine. but the feds have already stated that they always keep the info gathered.
gun laws will also take firearms out of the hands of the law abiding citizen as well. gun laws do nothing to take firearms out of the hands of criminals, otherwise there would be NO crime at all in NYC because of the sullivan law.
all gun laws do is disarm the law abiding who need the firearm to protect themselves from the criminal element.

P.S. crime in NYC is just a fraction than countless holes in gun-toting states. Some names? Cleveland, New Orleans, Birmingham, Cincinnati, Akron, Miami, Jacksonville, Detroit, Gary, Indianapolis, Youngstown, etc etc... Can I go on?

Anyway, I could tell you that my security door and shatterproof glass are working very well, thanks.
And I have always avoided problems: I still think that it's still the best thing to avoid to get involved in any type of crime.
I'm 40, NEVER been victim of a crime, so my friends and my family... and - OH MY GOD - none of them has ever touched a gun.
Living as a paranoid NRA member? No, thanks.
