Was he from there and a community organizer? This President has all the desires to fix things yet he can't start with one place here in the United States. With all of President Obama's talk about helping the poor he'd make an example somewhere......anywhere!
A Community Organizer anywhere is going to wave a magic wand and put an end to gangs?
BTW, Obama's stint as a Community Organizer occurred during the 3 years between Columbia and Harvard. He focused on the people living in one housing project. He took the city to court to force them to remove asbestos from the apartments. This wasalmost 30 years ago, before he attended Harvard and earned a law degree.

Then again, being in a gang infested neighborhood park at 12:30 AM is all it took for an innocent 5 year old to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. What was his mother thinking?
The shooter and his pals were captured. They are all gang members and claimed they owned the park. They intended to take out someone else and missed. Bail was denied.
They don't "choose" to live there, that's where they are stuck due to poverty.
That all depends.....If they are Section 8, they are free to live anywhere and some choose to do so.
On the other hand, most who choose to live in these neighborhoods do so because it's all they know. Their friends and extended families all live there. The baby dads are there. That many of the baby dads are gang members.....
It really is a cultural thing. Leaving one's village for the unknown takes a lot of guts.

The mother isn't thinking. She is as low life as anyone else who lives in these hell hole places. My bet her concern is receiving less welfare a fact she will correct inside the next 9 months.
There are many, many opportunities in a nation with 300 million people, if you just think outside the box.
There is more to earning a living than sending out resume's and hoping that someone picks you out of the crowd.
For instance, I have a guy i n the neighborhood who goes door to door asking people if they need their gardens/flower beds weeded. I see him working around town all the time.
There's work out there if you really want to work.
Weeding other people's flower gardens in the ghetto is not an option.
Education is the only way out of the ghetto and third world countries.
